I just found this picture of myself and Kilt-maker Mr. William Paul at the Pacific NW Highland Games & Clan Gathering last summer. ?Mr. Paul learned the tailor's trade as a boy from Polish Army veterans who stayed in Scotland after WWII. ?His love of Poland rivals my own and I look forward to seeing him and his wife every summer at the Games. ?I am in the uniform of a subaltern in the 10th Dragoons Regt., 1st Polish Armoured Division. ?This famous Polish division was organized and trained in Lanark, Scotland before landing at Normandy in 1944 and fighting through France, Belgium, Holland, and finally on to Germany where they took the surrender of the German Navy HQ in Wilhelmshaven in 1945. ?After the war many of these men chose a life of exile in Scotland after the war as returning to communist "People's" Poland after the war was not safe for Poles who served with the Western Allies.
