IPN seeks to prosecute Kresy crimes committed by Russians, Ukrainians, and Germa

Hello,

I've translated, in a summary form, information sought by the
Institute of National Memory (taken from their website today)
regarding genocidal crimes committed by the Russians, Ukrainians and
Germans in the Kresy region. I hope that those of us with
information will provide it to the IPN.

IPN's (Instytut Pamieci Narodowej=Institute of National Memory)
website seeks information on crimes against
the Polish nation. The below listed organizations are branches of
IPN located throughout Poland. Each branch is charged with pursuing
specific crimes. I chose to translate those that took place in the
Kresy, including one perpetrated by the Germans. I didn't take the
time to provide a beautifully literary translation...just made it
understandable.

(1) IPN --Oddzialowa Komisja S'ZpNP in Gdansk
ul. Witominskiej 19
81-311 Gdynia
Polska/Poland

This branch of IPN is charged with investigating the following
crimes:
(a) the evacuations in the spring of 1943 by the Germans of Polish
citizens from the locality of KULISZKI, powiat=county of POSTAWY, as
well as other localities of that county, wojewodztwo=province
wilenskie (Wilno). The inhabitants provided help to partisans
operating in the area. Persons with information are asked for
contact via mail.

(b) IPN seeks witnesses to the extermination and persecution of
Poles by the Soviet internal security apparatus from September of
1939 through June of 1941. This concerns deportations of Polish
people from the territory of wojewodztwo wilenskie (Wilno),
[powiaty=counties of braslawski, dzisnienski, molodecki, oszmianski,
postawski, swiecianski, wilejski, wilenski, grodzki, and wilensko-
trocki] deep into the territory of the USSR as well as other
repressions by the internal security apparatus having as its aim the
extermination of this portion of the Polish nation.

Additionally, work continues to determine historical dimensions of
these crimes. They are asking for names and details both of the
victims and perpetrators. We are asked for correspondence.

Please use the above address but add: Sygn. akt S 3/02/Zk

(2) IPN--Oddzialowa Komisja SZpNP in Rzeszow
ul. Slowackiego 18
35-060 Rzeszow
Polska/Poland
tel. (o-17) 860 60 32
fax (0-17) 860 60 45

This branch is prosecuting the murders of professors of Polish
universities and schools of higher education in Lwow, their families
and others living with them. This took place in Lwow in July of
1941. This prosecution is numbered as follows: S.5/o3/Zk

(3) IPN--Oddzialowa Komisja SZpNP in Wroclaw
ul. Soltysowickiej 23
Wroclaw [no postal code was given--I'll try to get it]
Polska/Poland

This branch is prosecuting the crime of genocide [with the aim of
exterminating a portion of the Polish national group] by Ukrainian
nationalists in the years of 1939-45 against Polish citizens living
within the following provinces=wojewodztwa LWOWSKIE, TARNOPOLSKIE,
and STANISLAWOWSKIE. we are asked to write to them.
****
I have previously contacted IPN regarding Katyn (my great uncle,
Adam Ludwik Krycinski, was murdered there) and Auschwitz ( my family
members: ROMAN MALARZ, DANUTA MALARZ, and PRZEMYSLAW MALARZ were
imprisoned by the Germans in the notorious Pawiak Prison in Warsaw.
They were subsequently transported to the Auschwitz concentration
camp where ROMAN (prisoner #64832, transported on September 22,
1942, date of death unknown) and DANUTA (prisoner #24459,
transported on November 12, 1942, date of death: December 16, 1942)
died. PRZEMYSLAW (prisoner #64831, transported from Pawiak to
Auschwitz on September 22, 1942) was transferred to Gross-Rosen
concentration camp and to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. He
survived the war. MALARZ family members were Polish Catholics who
were imprisoned when the Gestapo found radio equipment in their
house. They were part of the Polish underground). I'm still
working with IPN on the above names.

I intend to contact them about my stepfather's deportation to
Siberia and subsequent evacuation with general Anders' Army as well
as the deaths of three girl babies of my father's cousin (surname
Skwarek) while they were escaping from the Ukrainians. What stopped
me from contacting them before is lack of details, but I've decided
to go ahead and work on details later.

I hope those of us who have such information will contact IPN.

Hi Julek,

I appreciated your response. You have probably visited IPN's
website but if not, just want to let you know
that it has an English version, including a brief listing of the
different crimes they are investigating and prosecuting. IPN
translates its name as Institute of National Remembrance. That does
sound better in English than Institute of National Memory ... though
I think there should be an Institute of National Memory and
Conscience!!!

I want to correct/complete two addresses I gave in my previous
message:
(1) IPN-Oddzialowa Komisja SZpNP/Gdansk
ul. Witominska 19 (NOT: Witominskiej)
81-311 Gdynia
Polska/Poland
(and, yes, although it's called the Gdansk branch it's located in
Gdynia)

(2)IPN-Oddzialowas Komisja SZpNP/Wroclaw
ul. Soltysowicka 23 (NOT: Soltysowickiej)
51-168 Wroclaw
Polska/Poland

Julek, I thought you and others might be interested in an e-mail
address for IPN: sekretariat.ipn@...

Please feel free to write to me directly, if you wish.
