RPi Hotspot not visible #HotSpot SSID
#hotspot
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for a bit of advice please. I can't see my RPi SSID on my iPhone or iPad and therefore be able to connect when using the hotspot in BAP. I can connect fine using my home wifi or when hotspot tools is in "force hotspot" mode (RPi SSID now visible). I want to use my RPi out in the field headless. Is there something I'm missing to make the RPi SSID visible on my iPad or iPhone?? RPi 4,OS with desktop 32 bit, up to date.?BAP (HotSpot tools enabled), VNC. Thanks Roger MW0IDX |
As long as the Pi is in range of your home wifi, it will auto connect to it. Once your home wifi is no longer in range, the pi will generate the hotspot allowing you to connect from your phone/tablet. Two ways to test: 1. Unplug your home wifi (not ideal) and give the pi a few minutes to recognize it can't "see" the home network. 2. Throw the Pi into the car and drive away from the house. The hotspot will start once it can no longer "see" the home network. https://youtu.be/WqyPgj3cDKE

Hello Jason, I want to operate my RPi/flrig/g90 in the field without internet. I have successfully forced hotspot tools and was able to access my radio using VNC. However, I¡¯m not sure how to take things on the road. When I shutdown my RPi and turned it back on, I was unable to see/connect using 10.10.10.10 or the static IP I set up ?I had to connect lan cable and reset wireless function ? What is the process for shutting things down when in the shack with internet and moving to a remote location without internet? Should I have left the RPi on when I left my home? |
A static IP implies your talking about setting a Static IP in your router for your home wifi. If you have that WiFi in your Pi it's not going to switch to an Auto Hotspot. The point of the Auto Hotspot is to turn on when it there is no programmed WiFi network in range. Like you mentioned, you can force it on in that case to make sure it works. Once in the field, provided you set everything up correctly, it will search for WiFi networks you have programmed (a lot of us use our cell phones as a Hotspot network so we have internet as needed). If no networks are detected, that's when the Auto Hotspot comes in to play. Hope this answers your question. On Thu, May 19, 2022, 14:49 Tom Corcoran <tcorcoran@...> wrote:

Hello Brian,
so all I have to do is enable hotspot tools and then I can shut everything down and go remote. At remote, I fire RPi and connected gear up and RPi should search for historical IP addresses of router. If none found after defined time, then RPi reverts to a hotspot which I can access with iPad. Connect wifi to the RPi and then vnc with 10.10.10.10 to RPi.? ?Correct?? -- Tom VE3NY Toronto, Canada |
It's not looking for "IP addresses", it's looking for Wireless SSIDs (wifi names). If you've configured Hotspot Tools to check for savex WiFi connections and enable Hotspot if none found then it will work as advertised. If you want to test it, turn off your home wifi and turn on your Pi. On Thu, May 19, 2022, 19:04 Tom Corcoran <tcorcoran@...> wrote: Hello Brian, |
Great News :
Operating at the Ontario Science Station VE3OSC with my Xiegu G90 using the RPi/FLrig/FLdigi/Hotspot without internet. Once I figured out how to synchronize the clock everything worked out great and made many qso's. Thanks Brian for advice. Also, thanks Jason for ANOTHER very useful feature of BAP.? -- Tom VE3NY Toronto, Canada |
