Help with going forward

Good evening, I am wanting to build a digipeater using an FT2980R.? I have 73Linux installed on a designated PC, I have the radio and antenna all set up.? I have a digirig lite with appropriate cable for the radio.? And I have about 120 cash to buy anything else I would need.? ?Could someone steer me in the right direction because I feel like I am striking out.? Thanks in advance! -Larry K0HIO

There are a couple of options. If you just want a digipeater, you can use direwolf as a standalone app which will handle the digipeating. It can also be configured as an igate.
?
If you want a desktop application that you can interact with, take a look at YAAC. It will give you a map where you can see the stations as well as a way to send messages and add objects. It will also require direwolf running in the background for RF but there's a bit less to configure in direwolf for this setup.
?
Check out my APRS playlist on YT and I think you will get a better understanding of what's involved in a digipeater setup. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1QTYT4Qo9cav3oWl3BBZ8kopezkfNKYm

Thank you for your reply. We have almost zero APRS footprint in my area but I live in a large state forest that I like to explore in my Jeep. I am wanting something at the house to track my movements. Is the digirig lite all I need hardware wise for this or should I invest in the digirig mobile or signalink? ?Thanks for the help. Larry

The digirig lite doesn't work with a Raspberry Pi. There is a power issue with them.

Originalky i bought the digirig lite for a portable packet station. After a couple of emails with the owner, I exchanged it for a digirig mobile. Which works fine with the pi.

FYI

So you think I should spring for the digirig mobile?
