Good morning all. This is a cross post from Facebook, but I wanted to inquire of this group too....as I figure any FT-3DR owners here are likely 'power users.'
I'm a brand new owner of a used/NIB FT-3DR. So far, I'm totally loving this HT. One of the reasons I wanted it was for APRS, which seems to be working as advertised. So, I also have a TH-D72... and I realize that unlike the Kenwood, the FT-3DR does *not have an accessible TNC... and hence, cannot be used in any sort of 2-way fasion with, say, APRSDROID. Fair enough.
But I'm curious about the FT-3DR's option #17 "Comm Port Setting" in the APRS menu. It *looks like that can be enabled, set to 9600b, Output=Way.P. etc. On the surface, that would seem like data could be sent, ONE WAY, to something like APRSDROID to at least display on the map. Likewise, APRSDROID has WayPoint as a setting option.
But.... if that works, I haven't figured out the secret yet. So, I wanted to ask the experts here. Is this possible?
Thanks!
