Hey all,
I¡¯ve haven¡¯t done as much research as I like before posting this question, so forgive me if it obvious. With possibly hurricane Ian about to impact the gulf coast, I wanted to see if there was a way I could quickly deploy my BAP rig as a 20m winlink gateway? I see a build from scratch video for 2m packet, but not anything really about a quick transform and for 20m band. My goal is to quickly transform my station so I may support operators that may need help. Is this possible or should I look at building another setup? cheers Edward KU3RRY |
I have a battery Lithium Go box (Xiegu)and just finished (OT) Build?a Pi on a HP Laptop (Intel) plus my mobile IC 7100. I have a JPC-12 Vertical Portable antenna. I can be on the air in about 20-30 Minutes. I'd have to carry the laptop, battery box and Xiegu to the back yard be on the air. I tried checking into Satern Net 14.325 & 7.268 from my mobile. My Hamstick just didn't have the power for east coast stations to hear my mobile. Using Digital like Winlink or JS8Call, I'm heard from California to Florida. I just with I get an answer when I call CQ. 73 ? Don Poaps New Westminster, BC VA7DGP DATA VA7QU ? VOICE Winlink:?va7dgp@... Subject://wl2k ? ? ? ? ? Never set one up for ARDOP but I have a video on setting one up for packet that might provide some insight.
Have you already been approved by the Winlink dev team to be an admin? That approval is needed before your system will be allowed to connect to the CMS backend. If so, here's a great forum when you start configuring the gateway - /g/bpq32/topics -- 73, de KM4ACK

Thank you gents for responding, reading the T&C for winlink it seems they want dedicated hardware and goals to keep the gateway operating 24/7/365. I understand that they want a reliable infrastructure and I suspect my ¡°in an emergency¡± deployment would be in violation. Maybe one day I¡¯ll have resources to commit, but not right now.? 73 and I hope everyone in Ian¡¯s path stays safe! |

I thought the Winlink team had an option for "part-time" stations used in emergencies. They may have removed this option though. It might be worth sending them an email and inquiring. Running a full time gate way isn't terribly expensive compared to other endeavors in our hobby. A pi zero 2, digirig, and a simple radio like the Yaesu FT2980 will work. I use a Pi Zero 2, signalink, & FT2980 for my gateway. I already had the signalink laying around unused or I would have gone with the digirig. ? -- 73, de KM4ACK

My node is an ecomm node at this time. I explained that to the winlink contact, and they approved my sysop access. Eventually I will have a 24/7 node as well. I try to make sure it is used at minimum once a month to show good practices in updates and equipment capabilities.? Jason N0LOZ On Tue, Sep 27, 2022, 8:09 AM KU3RRY [AE] [VE] <ku3rry@...> wrote:

I'll leave the HF recommendations to someone that operates an HF gateway. I can point you to this group /g/bpq32/topics where a lot of sysops hang out. ? -- 73, de KM4ACK

I ran a BPQ node years ago running TNC-X and SCS-PTC tnc. On John Wiseman's site there are samples for setting up various modes. BPQ.cfg is the file you edit porting to the modes you want to run.
