Use a good USB cable ¨C lesson learned
Until today, I have been playing with my BAP RasPi and QRP transceiver in my shack where everything is well grounded and I was using a grounded power supply to power both. Also using the permanent antennas that are connected to the same grounding system. Everything has been working great. ? I moved to the back yard, set up a portable antenna, connected the RasPi and radio to a battery and attempted to operate. I had problems with the WIFI dying on the RasPi and noticed new noise on the transceiver, especially when I connected to the transceiver with Flrig. ? The culprit was a cheap USB cable. I went to my pile of cables, leftover from previous devices, and selected one that was heavier built and had a noise filter on the end that connects to the radio. Problems solved. This shows the added benefit of good cables and a good grounding system. The first you can always take with you but the later is not always available. |
