Conky and GPS on Build a Pi 3

Running a Build a Pi 3 on a 3B+. When I plug my gps in, conky freezes on my screen. My system clock continues to run correctly, but I have to unplug my gps and I lose my grid square.?

Which GPS are you using? This one?

Yes. Exactly.?

I have the same one. It flashes but doesn't really work on the PI. I tried the Build a Pi and TNC-X Pi script. It's supposed to allow it's GPS to pull in Winlink Gateway which it doesn't.?

I have the same GPS. Sitting in the window sill it sees some satellites but not enough to lock all the time. It's in a a north facing window in a house with a metal roof :/ so I'm not exactly giving it a good chance. It will occasionally lock on to enough satellites to give me a 3D fix. I need to move the Pi outside and test the GPS with better circumstances.

This - http://qrp-labs.com/qlg1.html is hands down the best, most reliable GPS I've ever used. I have one sitting next to the GloNas and connected to my QRP Labs GPS discipline clock and it never loses lock. I've had one running 24/7 since Hans started selling them. Unfortunately come is 2-wire serial not USB. I'd have to look at the pins on the Atmega chip to see if it's using SPI. If it was maybe it could be adapted for the Pi.

After Conky freezes, are you able to view your GPS by running
cgps

I am curious if it is a Conky issue or a GPS issue. I have seen the GPS create odd problems with Conky before

cgps is usually frozen when I first run it after Conky freezes.? I removed the gps, Conky showed current info including grid square until the next time it refreshed.? When the gps was reinserted, cgps was working normally when the window was open.? After 4-5 cycles of this, Conky was running ok, with the occasional lag.? I went through the steps in the video you included.? I did notice multiple process IDs for Conky.? Should there be only one?? I am also going to run a fresh BAP3 script on a different SD card to see if I screwed something up.

Same issue on my fresh BAP3, I have traced it to a change that I had made after install. I had edited /etc/default/gpsd, and changed the hot plug setting to ¡°true¡±. ?When I changed this back to false, and rebooted, conky will work correctly. For some reason, the hotplug setting messes up conky, xgps, and cgps.?
