Force Hotspot not working | Hotspot Tools 2

 

If you downloaded HotSpot Tools 2 for beta testing, the "Force Hotspot" may not work. To resolve, close HotSpot Tools. From terminal run
cd ~/hotspot-tools2
git pull

Try the force hotspot again and it should be resolved.

I cannot get my hotspot to work.? I have everything updated.? Both when I force the hotspot and when I unplug the power to my router, I get the IP address of 10.10.10.10 on the Pi screen (plugged into a monitor).? What I don't get is the RPiHotspot showing up on my iPhone, iPad, or Chromebook.? I feel that I am missing something simple.

When you say you are not getting the Pi showing up, do you mean a new SSID is not available? You will not be able to connect to 10.10.10.10 using VNC until you connect your device to the Pi hotspot and use the password you input during setup.

I saw this post today and decided to try HotSpot Tools 2 with my RPI4. I followed your video on installing HotSpout 2 and after installing the software noticed I missed installing “yad” because I am not running build a pi. ?I then installed yad. I enabled the hotspot and tried a forced HotSpot. ?I noticed the two bars had red x’s on them and the RPi did not beacon a SSID. Second I noticed it did not show the SSID or password in the Hotspot tools. ?Could the missing SSID and password be because they are missing in Hotspot tools. I do enter them twice to try and get them entered.?

I am sure I missed something but I am not sure what.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Hotspot Tools but I am getting the same result. ?With the SSID and Password for wifi missing I am thinking I need a hotspot software. ?after looking at the videos I did not see more that the tools to get a hotspot working. ?

Do I need some other software?

You need both the hotspot & hotspot tools installed. While you can install the hotspot manually using the video, BAP is by far the easier way to get it up and running. If you decide to manually install, double check your work. One minor typo can cause hours of frustration trying to figure it out. Don't ask how I know. hihi.

I tried your video and something went wrong. I am trying to get this to work to have APRS working running with a display because of running from a battery. ?

Tim,

I would not be concerned about installing BaP in order to install HotSpot and HotSpot Tools. BaP is just a series of scripts that make the installation very quick and easy.
I have used it for that purpose.

Interesting, I use a DRAWS as well.

You can load BAP and install Hotspot Tools2, just don't install any of the other programs.

I'm trying to figure out what makes the DRAWS program loads unique.

The DRAWS team maintains their own image specific for their hat. I have heard of others that have used at least parts of BAP with it but this isn't something I can support since I am not familiar with the customization of the DRAWS image. My video on the hotspot and hotspot tools were done with the standard Raspberry Pi OS. The hotspot that is installed by BAP and the video I referenced yesterday is provided by RoboBerry - http://www.raspberryconnect.com/network/item/330-raspberry-pi-auto-wifi-hotspot-switch-internet
