Evolve III laptop, 73Linux, Packet Winlink not keying IC-705

I really hesitate to post because this might have been answered by my frustration level is over the top.

I recently wiped my two Evolve laptops and installed Mint 23.1 and did the 73Linux build of all the applications. I have configured FLRIG to talk with my IC-705 and Direwolf to talk (not working) with FLRIG by uncommenting the RPTT RIG 2 localhost:12345 in direwolf.conf. FLRIG now uses port 12345 instead of 1234 (config>Setup>server) in FLRIG. Testing PTT from Flrig works.

When running Pat Winlink after starting the packet modem and having Conky indicate that Rig control is active Direwolf is on and Kissattach is active I try to do a packet connection via Pat Winlink ax.25 connection on 2 meter FM. The rig frequency changes to the correct frequency, it says connecting to the packet target callsign and then does not transmit. I get an "unable to establish connection connection to remote: Dial timeout message

Something is not working between Direwolf and FLRig and IC-705 radio. Direwolf to FLRig CAT PTT issue? Does Direwolf create a logfile that I could look at? If so, where is it?

Thanks in advance.

More info: I typed in direwolf at a command prompt and I got this as part of the message:

Config file line 205 ( the line in direwolf.conf that I uncommented) PTT with RIG is only available when hamlib support is enabled. You must rebuild direwolf with hamlib support. See User Guide for details.
Audio device for both receive and transmit: plughw:3,0 (channel 0)
Channel 0: 1200 baud, AFSK 1200 and 2200 Hz, A+, 44100 sample rate.
Note: PTT not configured for channel 0. (Ignore this if using VOX)
Ready to accept AGW client application 0 on port 8000
Ready to accept KISS TCP client application 0 on port 8081 ....

Hey Dave
Are you from Garden City?

Another update:

If you install Direwolf AFTER Hamlib you now get a message
Unable to establish connection to remote: No AX.25 ports configured
after the connecting message in PAT Winlink. New problem but still broken

Resolved!

Here is what I did to fix all of the packet problems and broken installs after running 73Linux installation of all apps:
1. Go back and install WSJT again.
2. Install JS8Call again. It must be installed after WSJTX.
3. Install Direwolf again. It depends on having Hamlib installed
4. Edit Direwolf.conf to have the PTT line look like this: PTT RIG 4 localhost:12345 This will have Direwolf talk to FLRIG using Hamlib rig #4 (FLRIG).

Hope this helps. Now to do my second Evolve.
