Re: 64bit Bullseye and BAP install

More install testing notes

When I did the initial install, I got an error message (screenshot below) that the Pat config did not have a grid square in it. I did enter my proper grid square when the install script asked for it just like I normally do. So it looks like the install script is not seeing the entry during the install.

Another thing I noticed, when I set my timezone to central, I saw errors that the local was not in the database. When I chose Chicago on a subsequent install, I did not see the local error.

Hi Curt

I don't remember is you said in the first of these emails, but what Rpi are you using this on? If it is one

with less then 4GB you will have to extent the size of the swap space. I have seen FlDIGI fail to install

at times even with a pi with 4GB, so have increased the swap to one or two Gigs to allow it to install.

You may want to try that.

I have never had a problem? with a Pi with 8GB.

I ran the BAP update tool without updating, choosing the items that did not install or needed an update, and everything installed except for

FLDIGI ¨C Not installed
GARMIN - Not Installed
XYGRIB ¨C Not Installed

I then ran the update through the widget, which did not require a restart. I then ran BAP Update tool again, just choosing the 4 things above that did not install, and everything installed except for
FLDIGI - Not Installed.

These results compare with the first couple of tests where I installed BAP on a fresh 64bit Raspberry Pi Bullseye image, ran the update widget, then ran BAP Update tool and everything installed except for?
FLDIGI - Not Installed.

So bottom line is that most things will install (according to the BAP updater screen), then updates needed to be installed to get almost everything else, and FLDIGI is the only one that has not installed through BAP.

Note: The 2 .txt files are log files I created after setting the preferences on the Pi Terminal Window to show 50,000 lines, then copied the text into a document.

@KM4ACK - Jason, I know that you have commitments until next month, but I still looked at the installer so the information is here when you get bandwidth to take a look at it. If you need more information, just tell me what you need, and I will run it for you.

Sidenote: The initial full install takes about 2-2.5 hours to complete, and the install after running the updates take around an hour or so. The new Raspberry OS Imaging tool takes about 10 minutes to fully image the 64bit image on a 64gig MicroSD Card. The Pi Foundation did some nice work on it for the macOS because it runs faster than the earlier version.

Re: 64bit Bullseye and BAP install

I have also installed and found that flrig and FLDigi did not install. I built from source and installed fine. guessing the BAP script is not installing the correct dependencies. I failed to write down the ones I installed, Sorry. I might try again soon. Also Pat does not install. And since you can't install from source guessing its because there is no arm64 version deb file.
everything else seem to work from what I have seen. will continue to play

Thanks for the update. Due to other commitments, it's going to be a couple of weeks before I can test the 64bit OS.

Re: PAT Sending "strange" packets when the PAT email Web UI is running #pat-mail

Thanks for the update. That is really odd! Maybe Chromium is trying to phone home? :-) As a side note, I have found Chromium unusable with Bullseye. It's just too dang slow. I loaded Firefox and use it instead.

Re: 64bit Bullseye and BAP install

I found a peculiar menu item, which was install updates. After I ran that, I went back to attempt to install from the list of the previous initial install

I was able to install/update everything except for FLDIGI. That will not install.

Now I am going to reimage a fresh Bullseye 64bit and go through all this again. I hope to find the install updates before I attempt to install BAP to see if the previous results stay the same or are different.

Re: No WIFI

Update: I've reflashed my PI 3A+ and have loaded KM4ACK before I went for eye surgery today. I can see the PNP codec in the sound. I went to the terminal used alsamixer > pointed the audio to the PNP and Pressed F 6 and set up the audio for MIC.
I'll update when I can see better.

The most likely answer is that the hotspot is engaged. Open Hot Spot Tools and disable the hotspot. Reboot and the wifi should work as normal.

64bit Bullseye and BAP install

Edited

Fresh install of the new Raspberry Pi 64bit OS

Updated Bullseye

Then ran Build-a-Pi fresh

Installed Everything

After the install restart, I checked the Update tool

Here is a list of everything that did not show either Installed or is_latest_version

HAMLIB ¨C Needs Update
FLRIG ¨C Not Installed
FLDIGI ¨C Not installed
FLAMP ¨C Not Installed
FLNET ¨C Not Installed
FLMSG ¨C Not Installed
FLWRAP ¨C Not installed
GARMIN - Not Installed
XYGRIB ¨C Not Installed

The install took less than 3 hours (RPi4 - 8gig)

If someone could point me to the install log, I will include it to this post.

Re: PAT Sending "strange" packets when the PAT email Web UI is running #pat-mail

Thanks for the quick reply Jason.? I have been at this for a while this morning and I at least troubleshot this down to where the culprit is...? no idea why it is happening but I now know how to stop it.? The issue is the Chromium browser itself.? When I open Chromium and my AX25 port is active, it immediately sends the UI frames out, even when I have not loaded a page (I can watch it happen in axlisten).? For a test, I downloaded Midori browser and used it to open the PAT email app (127.0.0.1:5000) and everything worked fine with no errant UI frames.? So...? the moral of the story is - Chromium is history on my PI.? I'd love to know why it is doing this, but Midori seems to work well for what I need and is faster than Chromium too.? So win/win I guess.

Matt, WE1H

Packet is different than ARDOP but you should hear a very short (1/2 second) burst of digital noise.

I am as lost as you are on this. The guys that would understand this are the ones that wrote Pat. Maybe post in their forum and see if they can explain.

The other guy that is super knowledgeable on this topic is David Ranch. He hangs out on the Pi forum. /g/RaspberryPi-4-HamRadio/topics

PAT Sending "strange" packets when the PAT email Web UI is running #pat-mail

Hi all,? I finally got everything AX.25 working the way I need it to but have a strange situation with PAT.? I can see this when using axlisten and in the /var/log/ax25-listen.log file.? When I open Chromium to the PAT email client (127.0.0.1:5000), it seems to work as intended but sends a bunch of AX.25 UI messages out that I am unfamiliar with, and I would like them to stop.? I have invested alot of time trying to solve this but have been unsuccessful.? Below is an excerpt of what is being sent.? FYI - I am a very technically savvy guy (former software engineer / IT guy) but am new to Linux so this may be a simple fix but it is beyond my current knowledge...

wl2k: fm WE1H to QST ctl UI pid=CC(IP) len 194 22:11:32.528072?
IP: len 194 44.127.0.1->239.255.255.250 ihl 20 ttl 1 DF prot UDP
UDP: len 174 59508->1900 Data 166
M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1
HOST: 239.255.255.250:1900
MAN: "ssdp:discover"
MX: 1
ST: urn:dial-multiscreen-org:service:dial:1
USER-AGENT: Chromium/95.0.4638.78 Linux

PAT sends this same message dozens of times and toward the end, includes "._googlecast._tcp.local" in the message.? It happens randomly (as far as I can tell) and when I disconnect from a station.? I can pull the entire log file if someone needs it, but I would truly appreciate some direction here.

Thanks in advance!

- Matt

Re: No WIFI

Don if its a new image did you add the wpa_supplicant file ?
As you probably already know this has the details for your wifi network and without it you can't connect to your router.
I've done exactly the same thing so many times I now keep a copy of the wpa_supplicant file on my windows desktop.

No WIFI

Download Raspberry Pi OS (previously called Rasbian) 32-bit from?

I reflashed my PI 3 A+ today as I saw a message that Buster was not supported. Buster had WIFI.?
I created the ssh and? to load my home wifi on it before I started the new os.?

I couldn't ssh, vnc or see the PI3A+ on my network. The upper right wifi was off. I did connect Bluetooth to my desktop in hopes I have internet access. NO luck.?

I have a Digirig interface, USB GPS and wired mouse and keyboard as I couldn't remote in. I can't even add KM4ACK

??git clone \
? $HOME/pi-build && bash $HOME/pi-build/build-a-pi

Any ideas on how to get wifi to work. This PI only has wifi or Bluetooth. The only way I see is the new wifi drivers didn't load. Could I do a search and copy the file on to the SD card using my SD card reader.

Did anyone else have this issue?
