Dual monitors?

Michael Starling

Am pretty much committed to dual monitors for the shack running a RP4.? Would like to be able to use RP3s in the field with no internet connection with the sourcing the Wifi to allow a tablet to be console using VNC.

The last time I built a BAP system it was not possible to get a second monitor to run.? So I moved to Ham-Pi for the shack.? Can't get the wifi sourced for field use.

Frankly, I like the system utilities and CONKY available in the BAP build.

Has anyone solved dual monitor problem I saw with BAP?

Thanks!

Mike

BAP Direwolf and YAAC?

I just started running Direwolf on a Raspberry Pi running the Bullseye OS. You can look at my station on APRS.FI using the station name KI5MIV-10.

I have a Baofeng with the correct cable and usb sound card attached. I have the pi configured as an igate, digipeater and beacon.

I desire to test receive and transmit using APRS.

How can I test using YAAC or some other method?

Re: Docker Pi Power Board SW Install Error

Just found this on the WIKI for the board:

One-Step Automated Install(Raspberry Pi)

  • Due to short link is not available, please use github to install driver.

wget -qO- | sudo bash

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/geeekpi/dockerpi/master/powerboard/install.sh | sudo bash

Reboot your Raspberry Pi and finish installation.

I have Buld-A-Pi running now and will try these instructions later.

Re: Docker Pi Power Board SW Install Error

Could be either, I'd ask on their Github Issues forum...

Re: Docker Pi Power Board SW Install Error

I have run the install three times and get the same error each time. Wonder if something is
missing from the "github" or if there is a compatibility issue with Bulleye.

Docker Pi Power Board SW Install Error

Just built a new micro SD with Bullseye for my 4B. Attempted to install the SW for the Docker Pi Power Board.

Ran? "wget -qO- https://git.io/fj3b9|sudo bash" per instructions and got:

"Job for powerboard_daemon.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status powerboard_daemon.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details."

Ran "systemctl status powerboard_daemon.service" and got:

Re: WSJT-X with FT 991a Settings #yaesu #bullseye #wsjt-x

Thank you all for the reply's and help! Found the problem in the Audio section of WSJT, was using the wrong codec's. There's to many there to choose from.?
Now on to other things I want to see if I can setup. Being new to the Pi programing I got the Linux 101 video from KM7ACK to help with my programing skill's, ie, I have none, but will try anything once. Looks like a bunch of good & qualified guys here. Thank you all for the help.

Re: WSJT-X with FT 991a Settings #yaesu #bullseye #wsjt-x

hello allen,
991a, pi3b+, bullseye, build a pi, ocf dipole, about 40w.
ran flrig for a long time.? however, the audio decode would fail after a few hours, aka, not running all night or all day.?
ditched flrig for usb cable from the 991a to the pi3b+ direct.? so far its stable and runs for days without losing audio.
last time i rebooted the pi3b+ was up for 3 days.?
if you haven't solved your issues wit js8 or wsjtx email me. or i can send the settings i use here??

Pulse Audio and Direwolf?

I am running the latest Version of Raspian OS on my pi.

will pulse audio work okay with direwolf?

Re: WSJT-X with FT 991a Settings #yaesu #bullseye #wsjt-x

Allen - I have the rig and computer arrangement exactly like KB8SRX.? Thanks to Jason for the excellent bit of documentation.?

Like others, I get wound up in the FT-991A menus, but have found WSJT-X and JS8Call easy to configure with this setup and FLRig.? I've had more problems configuring for FM packet than HF data modes.
My radio menu settings are nearly identical to Jason's.? The only differences are in high and low audio filter settings (066-069), but those would only affect receive performance.

Mine just happens to be working on a new install and WSJT-X hadn't been configured, so it was a quick test case.? FLRig was already configured and as KB8SRX shows.? WSJT-X started decoding as soon as I set "Rig" to "FLRig" and got the soundcard input/output set.? My sound device happens to be "hw:CARD=CODEC,DEV=0" for WSJT-X because I haven't progressed very far in managing RPi OS audio configurations.? It's certainly not as easy as Windows in that regard.

On the WSJT-X "Radio" tab, the "Test CAT" button works here as soon as "Rig" is set.? Likewise for the "Test PTT" button once "PTT Method" was then set to "CAT".? Under "Mode", I likewise use "Data/Pkt" so WSJT-X switches the radio to its D-U (Data-USB) mode via CAT.? I've been bitten by leaving that in the default "None" position because I bop around between different modes and forget to switch mode manually at the radio.? No problems just letting WSJT-X and, similarly, JS8Call set the mode, though.

That was it. There's really little to configure with WSJT-X when using FLRig.

Re: 64bit Bullseye and BAP Programs Run Test

Thanks for the detailed report. BAP builds FLDIGI from source but apparently there are some changes needed. I haven't dug into it but there seems to be a solution. /g/linuxham/topic/88963003 I have also created an issue ticket

64bit Bullseye and BAP Programs Run Test

64bit Bullseye is out of beta and out in the wild. Since I did some testing with what would install on 64bit Bullseye with BAP, I was wondering which programs would run or not. All I am doing on this test is to see if the program starts, and if not, document any error messages that come up. I do not know most of the programs, so I could and will be wrong somewhere :D?

To Recap: FLDIGI is the only program on BAP that did not install through BAP from my tests. I did not try to build FLRDIGI from source.?

I am running a Pi 4B - 8gig and using a 64gig Card. I also do not have a radio hooked up. Again. I am only interested in seeing if the programs starts or not.

Build a Pi Donate?- Starts
Build a Pi FAQ?- Starts
Build a Pi Tech Support?- Starts
Build a Pi Update Tool?- Starts
FLAMP - Error - 'Start fldigi before starting flamp'

Again, this was just a test to see what starts and what doesn't start. You may get different results, but these are mine.

?
Good Morning Allen, If no one has helped you yet, I'll give it a shot, I have been fighting with my 991a for a while, and I think I have it worked out, at least enough to make a half a dozen HF Contacts and 2 VHF contacts on FT8,? ?I needed to resize all of the pictures for the email, but if you need them larger, just shoot me an email to kb8srx@... and I can send them to you, by the way my FT-991a is hooked to the Pi4 8gig with ONLY the USB Cable......so if your using a secondary soundcard the audio settings may not work for you, good luck?

Cant get the FT 991a to transmit on WSJT-X. FLRIG works with the radio; ie tx button, frequency changes, doesn't power on/off though. WSJT Test CAT lights green, but Test PPT won't key radio.
Anybody share some settings with me?

Re: BAP 3.2.1 Conky

Hello,

I used the center image 'trick' here too, But I still have seen the wonky-conky happen.
??
Then I recall that someone mentioned it might be related to VNC. (One of my PIs is connected to a keyboard and terminal [not headless] but is set up so it can run headless).? I realized that the terminal connected pi always came up conky correctly in position ----- unless I rebooted it remotely via VNC.

I've found, that if I'm in VNC and ask for a reboot, and leave the VNC window open while waiting for the pi to restart,? Conky data shows up in the middle of the screen.

IF on the other hand, I ask for a reboot, and kill the VNC window, when I start up a new VNC window AFTER reboot has completed, the Conky data is on the right hand side of the screen where I expect it.

Once the conky is 'wonky',? terminating VNC and re connecting does not clear the location.? But IF I reboot the system and close VNC, Conky returns to its correct position.

I have tried replicating and found that it almost always appears in the 'wrong' position, if I don't kill the VNC session after reboot.

Maybe this will help others as well.

Re: WSJT-X with FT 991a Settings #yaesu #bullseye #wsjt-x

Also I meant to say - run flrig then run wsjt-x (set to flrig as the rig)

Ok, I have a Pi 8GB, but some how I over powered it and saw smoke come out, so I

will putting in an order for another. I was going to set it up to use as the home PC

with two monitors to replace the old laptop I am currently using. I have the adapter to

use the 500GB internal drive of the laptop here now, and a monitor to mount the pi onto

and another monitor to plug in. Looks like I may have to just put in an order and wait until

they ship to me.

The Rpi 4B 4GB that is the Ham PC is doing good. I have it loaded with the bullseye 32 and trying

it out. However with the shack in the garage and no heater and temperatures running in low 30s

I haven't gotten to try it much. It did install the three Fl-suite apps I use just fine and the few others

too.

Have a good day.

I don't remember is you said in the first of these emails, but what Rpi are you using this on? If it is one

at times even with a pi with 4GB, so have increased the swap to one or two Gigs to allow it to install.

You may want to try that.

I have never had a problem? with a Pi with 8GB.

Hi Marty,

My test Pi is a model 4B with 8gigs.?

It just rips through the install pretty quick. The 64bit Bullseye installs BAP quicker than the 32bit Bullseye.
