Kenwood TH-D74 bluetooth connection to Pi
Trying to connect Kenwood TH-D74 (in Kiss TNC mode) via bluetooth to use is with YAAC.
Initially, it worked.? Paired radio and Pi with Bluetooth.? In the terminal ran "sudo rfcomm connect /dev/rfcomm0 Mac Address 1".? This worked and YAAC was able to make a port on rfcomm0.? APRS packets were recieved and transmitted. But, I cannot repeat this.? If I try to pair the radio to the pi, I get the "Connection Failed - No usable services on this device" error.? In the terminal, I run the rfcomm connection command as above.? It works and under the Bluetooth icon on the Pi, it shows that the TH-74 is connected.? But, the radio does not connect to the Pi.? On the radio, the Bluetooth icon is greyed out.? I ran rfcomm bind command, thinking that might help, but no luck.?? Does anyone have the correct method to pair the radio to the Pi via bluetooth?? Thank you. Larrie AF7NU |
Tabula Rasa OR I need help again.
Hello to all, I have dusted off my 'good' laptop. I haven't used it in a while. It can boot BUT I have forgotten the password (again). I would like to do a fresh install of Linux Mint and then 73 Linux. I can get to the terminal as the machine doesn't need the password on boot. b Can anyone help me do this? I am currently running Ubuntu 22.04 with 73 Linux. I would like to do a fresh start with all of the necessary 'bells and whistles'. Can anyone help? A LOT of 'please' in this. 73, Tryg -- |
Re: RPi 4 - 32 bti or 64 bit?
#poll-notice
KM6LYW, thanks for the input! Greatly appreciated!! Presently I have 5 Pi's all running BAP with my main ones having issues - most probably self-inflicted. Here is my breakdown of my Pi's and their statuses: ======== 1. Home / portable packet station: ? ? Pi Zero 2W running Bullseye with a Sabrent sound card and GPS dongle. ? ? ? ? ?Software: Direwolf as a digi and APRSD WebChat (Thanks Craig for APRSD!!) ? ? Radio: old Standard HT and Mirage 35w amp. This runs off-grid 24-7-365 and has no problems. ? ? ? ? ?(Mike's rule of software - if the old version is working don't upgrade until necessary) ========== ?2. Winlink gateway: ? Pi 3b running Bullseye with a Sabrent sound card - no GPS dongle ? ? ?Software: Direwolf, LinBPQ ? ? Radio: old Icom IC2-AT and Mirage 35w amp. This runs off-grid 24-7-365 and has no problems. ? ? ? ? ?(Mike's rule of software - if the old version is working don't upgrade until necessary) ============ 3. Main radio - my Go-Frame ?Pi 3b running Bullseye with SignaLink and GPS dongle ? ? Software: Most all of the BAP software. Additionally, Xlog ? ? Radio? FT-857D with LDG autotuner and winkeyer This is what I use for winter field day and field day. As well as sometimes POTA. I have an issue with Xlog in that it uses an old version of hamlib and it breaks everything else. I like xlog because it allows for adif logging fields that? POTA requires but the big one for me, being a CW operator is that it supports CW macros - if HAMRS?would do that I would switch in a heartbeat!? If anyone has a suggestion for logging on a Pi that supports?CW macros as well as POTA logging, I would appreciate the input. The real?issue for me is that when I reinstall xlog after an upgrade, hamlib fails to work with winlink, or any packet functionality. I know this is my issue, and its small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. I was hoping that Bookworm / 73 linux would fix these things and maybe it has, but I am hesitant to try the upgrade on this system at this time. =============== 4. Mobile setup in my Jeep. Pi 3b running Bullseye with SignaLink and GPS dongle ? ? Software: Most all of the BAP software. Additionally, Xlog ? ? Radio? FT-857D with LDG autotuner and winkeyer This setup is identical to the one above, however this is my main POTA station. With this setup, I have the same issues, but I can't run packet at?all anymore but CAT and hamlib work fine on Xlog, which is my goto for POTA logging. 5. Kitchen radio - yes it is! ? ?Pi 4 2GB ram running bullseye with xggcomms USB-Digimode-3 sound card No GPS ? ? running Bullseye and most all BAP software ? ? Radio: Icom IC-718 with LDG autotuner I have been using this setup to try various operating systems. I just use different SD cards when trying things out. I would like to be able to run winlink on this setup, but with bullseye?in the standard configuration, as we all know, ardop doesn't work.? I know that 2GB of ram really isn't enough to?run VARA, but I felt fortunate enough to even find?a pi 4 back when they?were in short supply. I do have an?8GB pi on?the?way so hopefully that will?fix a?lot of things? I have tried a few things like changing leader-length but to no avail. I know there is another fix, but I haven't dug into it. I am hoping Bookworm / 73linux will get me past this, but I am slowly working through other "gotchas' on an as I have?time basis. Honestly I'm? sure most of my woes are self-inflicted for one reason or another. I also hope this drivel doesn't discourage anyone. As with all major changes such as a new operating system, the transition is usually rough. I appreciate all who have brought this project along - it really is a great bit of software! -- Mike WB8ERJ Geeze! What is he up to now? |

If you don't have more than 4Gigs and you're not doing a lot of floating point operations, the 32bit OS is still the right choice imho.? ?Going 64bit will burn an additional 100M of ram for no real benefit.? Plus the 64bit stuff isn't quite mature enough.? Bookworm if you have a Pi5, though, given the state of the newer kernels and gpio issues, Bullseye kinda makes sense if you're using an older Pi.

Good question - This Pi is 100% for ham radio, won't be running anything else on it.? I've got multiple rigs to coordinate, but the goal is to have this be the 'shack support' computer for all things ham - digital modes, packet, even CW skimming and such.

Re: Pat with Kenwood D72A on Raspbian (installation with with BAP)
Thank you Jeremy. After crawling through my notes again,? I found this link to instructions for setting it up that I followed:?
I have played a bit (indoors to avoid the storms in California today) and I think it is working - though I can't hit any servers from indoors with a rubber ducky on the D72A. I have a J-Pole - but at the moment have to go outside to connect the radio to it - so will wait for real test until tomorrow... Jim KM6GUO |
Re: RPi 4 - 32 bti or 64 bit?

Should be good in 64bit for ham the operating system can run 32bit code and libraries easily?
64bit is also higher performance on pi and the default OS? |
Re: RPi 4 - 32 bti or 64 bit?

For what purpose or apps? It still can make a serious difference on what else besides 73Linux scripts you are going to run, like camera stuff, or apps not necessarily related to ham operations.

Planning on starting a new setup from scratch on a PI4.? I know a few months ago, the preferred install was still 32bit due to some gaps in support.? ? KO4BCN |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJim try lsusb in command prompt ¨C this should tell you what card / device your sound card is. ? You can adjust audio setting with alsamixer.? Use F6 select your card, then F5 to adjust individual settings.? Speaker is out and microphone / capture is input. ? Hope this helps. ? KM6QAQ 73 ? Pat with Kenwood D72A on Raspbian (installation with with BAP)
Argh - I had this working - clearly piecing together various web pages and videos. And now it doesn't work. I can tell that my pat configuration file got changed because saved server/freqs are gone... But I changed (or gremlins changed...) something else.
And I am sure I made myself notes somewhere - on how to run it - and how I set it up - but I can't find them (maybe it seemed so clear to me at the time that notes weren't necessary).? So no notes, searching doesn't seem to find the right pointers... Here is what I think I had working... Pat with Direwolf and a D72A. No additional TNC - cause it is built in to the D72A. I would start packet modem using pat menu - pat itself starts on boot - I would go and choose connect ax.25 and choose a freq and server name - and voila... Now - it is clear the modem is not starting... Does my sequence make sense with the D72A? Can someone point me at instructions that might get me close? If I try to fire up direwolf - I get errors...? Dire Wolf version 1.7
Includes optional support for:? gpsd hamlib cm108-ptt

Reading config file direwolf.conf
Audio device for both receive and transmit: plughw:3,0? (channel 0)
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1829:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card
Could not open audio device plughw:3,0 for input
No such file or directory
Pointless to continue without audio device.
Note that arecord -l doesn't show the device
But ls /dev/serial/by-id does see this device:?usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge_Controller_0567003F3581-if00-port0? ?

Re: Error running Vara scripts posted
Tim Tyler 001
Reinstalled VarAC. Seems to be working correctly. At first run, COM33 was missing, so I shut down the program. Re-started, COM33 was back! Selected that port and all is well with program and CAT control with FT-818ND. Still have a display issue with fonts, but I'll just watch for a fix down the road. As it is now, I can read everything in the interface, it just looks funky. Maybe later today I can stick out my whip and have a QSO. Wow... You all have great patience, especially Kelly. I've learned a bunch of terminal commands and have some success! YAY! |
Re: Error running Vara scripts posted
Keep trying it should load don¡¯t set the Linux compatible ini setting - try closing it and load it again I normally have success.? varAC performance on wine is rough the developer is not a Linux user and the code is closed so .. it¡¯s a uphill adventure? |
