LDG AT-600ProII w Meter For Sale (in Simi Valley)
LDG AT-600ProII automatic antenna tuner and M-600 meter for sale. This tuner and meter were designed to work with each other, and the meter is no longer made or generally available (although the tuner is generally available). This tuner can handle 600w of SSB, 500w of CW, 400w of FT-8, and 300w of other digital modes, with a 250w power limit on 6m. Bands covered are 160m ¨C 6m, with a built-in frequency sensor. The tuner and meter connect to each other via an included interface cable and allow you to monitor multiple metrics in multiple ways at once. The meter allows you to monitor either peak or averages for forward power, reverse power, and SWR. These have both been used and confirmed working well; a solid combination of a great tuner with a very usable meter. More information about the tuner can be found on LDG¡¯s website at https://www.ldgelectronics.com/at-600-proii and information about the meter can be found in the official manual at https://irp.cdn-website.com/4d6cc687/files/uploaded/M-600%20Manual%20Rev%20A.pdf. Sold as a bundle, as-is with no returns or refunds. Price: $400 (Cash/Venmo/Paypal/other digital payment options for local folks/pickup) 73 -- Matt N3AR

Xiegu X5105 Transceiver for Sale (in Simi Valley)
Selling a lightly used Xiegu X5105 (Outdoor version) ¨C I really enjoy this radio, but between my KX2 and some other recent purchase, it just isn¡¯t getting a lot of use. The radio great with no known issues. The X5105 is a (very) solidly built 160m - 6m QRP (5w) transceiver with an integrated battery, (very good) antenna tuner, and many other "modern" amenities for a rig. For more technical specs than you probably will ever care to know, you can check out the Radioddity page for the radio (https://www.radioddity.com/products/xiegu-x5105). I¡¯m including every accessory that you see in the attached images, including the LowePro case. Sold as-is with no returns or refunds. Price: $400 (Cash/Venmo/Paypal/other digital payment options for local folks/pickup) 73 -- Matt N3AR

Ameritron AL-811 Amp for Sale (in Simi Valley)
For sale is my Ameritron AL-811. This amplifier is rated up to 600 watts of power output, however I¡¯ve run it to around 350-400 depending on band and drive level. While I am not aware of any issues with the amp, I have not driven it to its power limits. Designed with three rugged 572b tubes, the AL-811 is built to last and offers exceptional performance across HF bands from 160 to 10 meters. The three included/installed Russian tubes are in good shape, and I¡¯m also including four new ¡°matched¡± Chinese tubes in a box (not shown) that seemed to operate well when tested for several minutes in the amp. The Ameritron AL-811 features easy-to-use controls and comprehensive metering for monitoring power output, plate current, and grid current, allowing you to fine-tune your operations with precision. The amplifier's automatic bias system reduces heat and prolongs tube life, while its solid state protection circuitry guards against high SWR, excessive grid current, and other potential issues. Whether you are a seasoned operator or a newcomer to amateur radio, the AL-811 will provide the power and reliability you need to make the most of your equipment. Sold as-is with no returns or refunds. Due to weight, size, and the potential fragility of trying to ship tubes, I have no interest in attempting to ship this. Price: $600 (Cash/Venmo/Paypal/other digital payment options for local folks) 73 -- Matt N3AR

I am swamped with work today on my house and will not be able to host the 10M Net. This is two weekends in a row unfortunately. I suspect radio traffic will be light with Mother¡¯s Day, and yes I am screwing that up with my house work too. If anyone else can take the net today, I would appreciate it. Sorry again, Dave AI6VX

Pres Says - May 2025
Pres Says May 2025 AI6VX Weather Station Temperature History for April 2025 Welcome to the month of May! Okay, I¡¯m late - we¡¯re already 1 week into the new month. From my weather station, barely 10 of the days in April were solidly in the 70¡¯s, but it is refreshing that the sun is finally out. We¡¯ve got VERY warm temperatures on tap for the weekend and then back to mid 60¡¯s next week. As usual the year is zipping by, though looking back, the club events in April feel like they were so long ago. How is it that time goes by quickly and slowly for the same period? AI6VX FT8 Log on a Particularly Good Evening Just like above where I perceived time to move both quickly and slowly, my personal ham radio activities in April seem few, but now that I¡¯m really thinking about it, the month was pretty full! HF has been amazing! Our 40M nets have been really good these past 3 weeks. Folks were coming in strong, and everybody was hearing each other. A few weeks ago after our Monday 2M net, I got on to do some FT8 and was surprised to hear stations in Europe. (Europe is normally difficult for me). After answering a few CQ¡¯s, I was surprised to see many stations trying to call ME specifically! For a solid 30+ minutes I was answering folks one right after the other. I even picked up a few new countries! Warren KN6ZZI Shack and Antenna If you were at our K6MEP Field Day 2023 event you likely remember Warren KN6ZZI. Warren drove down from Santa Barbara to see what our K6MEP Field Day was all about. Not only did he have a wonderful time, but he got hooked on HF communications. Since that visit Warren got into DX contesting, picked up his amateur extra, built a nice ham shack, and put a Steppir antenna on his roof. This month he traveled to Cape Verde Island off the West coast of Africa to operate a station and using the callsign D44ZZI, I bet he¡¯s having the time of his life. If you wanted to try and contact Warren there, you can ¡®track¡¯ him at Clublog.org through this link: https://clublog.org/livestream/d44zzi Speaking of Field Day, Field Day 2025 is just over a month away! We¡¯ll be talking about it at the May and June club meetings, and planning it over Groups.io and Zoom meetings. We also have two ¡®Portable Operations¡¯ events before FD so you can get your get some practice in before the actual FD weekend. Here¡¯s what we did last month: April 11th we had our monthly meeting with a presentation on Meshtastic. I certainly had fun giving the presentation, but I hope I didn¡¯t scare everyone away from wanting to give it a try. Thanks to Ben K6QV for donating a node for one of the raffle prizes. Those that got in on the Ed Fong group buy also received their orders, less the tri-band antennas that were distributed the following weekend at the ¡®Portable Operations¡¯ event. Church Clean-Up Day April 12th, a lot of you came out for the Church cleanup day! Thank you all so much for helping. Once again, Grace Lutheran was very appreciative of our help, and fed us with a hamburger and hot dog BBQ. April 19th we had the 2nd of our regular monthly ¡®Portable Radio and Help Session¡¯ get togethers in the picnic area at Grace Lutheran Church (GLC). Attended by at least 19 people, radio contacts were made, folks helped each other, and everyone enjoyed each other¡¯s company. We even had 2 recently licensed non-club hams show up. Thanks to everyone that came out! What¡¯s happening in May? May 9th, 7:00pm at Grace Lutheran Church is our next club meeting where we¡¯ll have 2 presentations. John Kitchens NS6X will be giving us an ARRL update and Pat Anglum N6XTM will give a talk on SDR. We will also discuss Field Day planning. May 17th 8:30am at Grace Lutheran Church we¡¯ll be holding our next VE session. We have a lot of spots open. If you or someone you know would like to come and take a ham radio license test, send an email to licensing@... to reserve your spot. May 17th 11:00am - 2:00pm at Grace Lutheran Church will be our next ¡®Portable Radio and Help Session¡¯. Again we¡¯ll meet in the picnic area, set up and play radio. Bring what you plan on using at Field Day.

HT radios
From Oliver K6OLI Choosing the Right Handheld Radio (HT) for Emergency Communications During the recent Walk for Kids event, the topic of handheld radios (HTs) came up. Choosing the right HT is crucial for effective emergency communications, and it largely depends on your personal preferences, budget, and intended use. Here are some key points to consider: 1. Usage First, think about how you plan to use your radio. If you primarily operate on 2m/70cm repeaters and occasionally use simplex for local events like Walk for Kids, a basic dual-band HT might be all you need. Analog Radios Analog radios come in a variety of price ranges: Budget-Friendly Options: There are affordable Chinese-made radios like Baofeng and its clones. These are good for beginners but may not be suitable for use near hospitals due to unwanted harmonics. A good alternative is the TYT-8000D or E at around $80, which has a cleaner signal. Mid-Range Options ($100 - $200): Brands like Yaesu, Icom, and Anytone offer reliable mid-range radios. Examples include the Yaesu FT-60R, FT-70DR, VX-6R, Icom IC-T10, and Anytone AT-D168UV. Some of these radios can use AA batteries, which is a useful feature for emergencies. Premium Options: Premium radios offer additional features like digital voice modes, APRS, GPS, and waterfall displays. However, these features may not be necessary for basic emergency communications. Digital Modes LAXNORTHEAST primarily uses analog modes to ensure inclusivity and reach a broader audience. If you're interested in digital modes like DMR, Fusion, or D-Star, make sure there are compatible repeaters in your area. Most digital radios also support analog 2m/70cm operation. 2. Programming Software There are two main choices for programming software: CHIRP: Free, open-source, and supports a wide range of radios. You'll need a programming cable unless your radio has a USB port. RT Systems: User-friendly and spreadsheet-based, but each software package is specific to one type of radio. The software costs around $25, and bundles with programming cables are available for $40 - $50. RT Systems programming cables can usually be used with CHIRP, too. For HTs CHIRP is an excellent choice. RT System shines with HF rigs that can be more complex. 3. Programming Cable Budget around $25 - $30 for a good quality programming cable. BlueMAX49ers and ValleyEnterprises are reliable sources for cables that use FTDI chips, which are more reliable than some cheaper alternatives. Radios On Sale as of May 4, 2025 Yaesu FT-60R: A long-time favorite for emergency communicators due to its durability, decent battery life, and access to weather bands. It can also use 6 AA batteries with the FBA-25 battery adapter. Yaesu FT-70DR: A good radio but the shorter battery life makes it impractical for extended field use. It's best used when you have access to a charger. Yaesu VX-6R: Excellent for those who regularly use 220MHz. It also has an AA battery pack option. Yaesu FT-65R and FT-4R: Nice radios but not on sale as of this writing (May 4, 2025). They were designed to compete with Chinese radios, so their build quality may not match the FT-60R or VX-6R. Sales are happening all the time - especially around hamventions and the holiday season. Different manufacturers time their sales differently, too, so keep checking for your preferred HT at regular intervals. Zoom has a built-in tool for checking your audio. I suggest using it before the meeting time to avoid missing anything. If you have low bandwidth internet you can turn off your video camera. Zoom also functions by dialing in on a phone.
