CARC D-STAR TESTS CONTINUE THROUGH OCTOBER
Hi everyone, If you have a D-STAR radio, we invite you to join us on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. for a quick test of the new CARC D-STAR repeater. We anticipate making a few adjustments in repeater settings and would appreciate a few test signals to verify performance and coverage. Our repeater operates in Mixed Mode - FM Analog and D-STAR. Our Drive Home Net operates from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in traditional FM Analog. Join us there if you have time. This will, also, allow to compare performance between the two modes. The Drive Home Net operates every Tuesday except for the 4th Tuesday, which is our monthly meeting night. The D-STAR tests continue after the Drive Home Nets through October, with no tests on the 4th Tuesday. FM Analog settings: 441.875 MHz, PLUS OFFSET (5 MHz), PL=131.8 Hz D-STAR settings: 441.875 MHz, PLUS OFFSET (5 MHz) -- DR mode Set for Local Mode -- CQCQCQ Set RPT1 as N5CXX..B (replace periods with spaces) RPT2 is NOT USED; some radios or software require something in this field, so use N5CXX..B or N5CXX..G (again, replace the periods with spaces) The N5CXX D-STAR repeater operates only in local mode at this time. There is no Gateway. We hope to have a connection to the D-STAR network in early 2025. 73, Frank Krizan KR1ZAN

National Preparedness Month: Have a Go Kit
September is National Preparedness Month, and ARRL is working to help radio amateurs have a plan for family resilience. Many hams enjoy public service as part of their operating. The Collins ARC Drive Home Net is moving back to 441.875, PLUS, PL=131.8, Tuesdays, 5:30pm
Hi from the Collins ARC Drive Home Net --- We're writing to let you know that the Net is moving back to its original repeater at Collins Aerospace in Richardson, effective Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024. The Collins ARC N5CXX 70 repeater is on 441.875 MHz, Plus Offset, PL=131.8 Hz The Collins ARC Drive Home Net operates on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays of each month with exceptions in November and December, from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. CT. We hope you'll join us on a regular basis and participate in ham talk. We have a new repeater in service with twice the power of the old repeater, as well as, a new antenna. The antenna will probably be upgraded in the not too distant future to give us additional gain and coverage. The new Icom repeater is a dual mode 70cm repeater which allows for FM analog and D-STAR. We anticipate being able to begin testing local coverage using D-STAR, and, hopefully, sometime next year be connected into the world-wide D-STAR network. We'll be announcing on the Drive Home Net and on our Club website (n5cxx.us <http://n5cxx.us/>) when we plan to start testing D-STAR. If you're equipped for D-STAR, we hope you'll participate in these tests. Hope to see you Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. We sincerely thank the Garland Amateur Radio Club for use of their 70cm repeater for the past year for hosting our Net while our repeater and antenna were being replaced. This is an example of the true spirit of amateur radio. 73, the Collins ARC Repeater Team

The Collins ARC of Richardson invites you to join our meeting for AMSAT News on Tues. Aug. 27th
Join us on Tuesday, August 27th, at 5:30 p.m. for the monthly meeting of the Collins Amateur Radio Club to be held at Woodcreek Church, 3400 E. Renner Rd, Richardson. The meeting will, also, be streamed via Zoom. Login instructions are available on the Club¡¯s website, n5cxx.us. Following a brief business meeting, Jonathan Brandenburg, KF5IDY, Assistant Vice President of Engineering, will present a program entitled "A conversation on current and future AMSAT engineering projects¡±. AMSAT has over fifty years of experience building and launching spacecraft for the amateur radio community. As technologies evolve, AMSAT has taken advantage of advancing technologies and standards to launch CubeSat missions and use commercial, off-the-shelf components. This rich history continues today as AMSAT engineers diligently work on multiple exciting projects to advance AMSAT¡¯s vision and mission to deploy amateur radio satellite systems. These projects range from the ambitious GOLF-Tee satellite, to the more immediate Fox-Plus satellites, and on to research and development projects to develop new technologies for both current and future missions. With these projects, AMSAT¡¯s goals include progress to highly elliptical orbits, a steady supply of low earth orbit payloads, and early-stage research into thrust and deorbit options for AMSAT spacecraft. Please come to this presentation prepared to ask questions about the various aspects of AMSAT¡¯s engineering efforts that interest you. Jonathan Brandenburg was raised in the small town of Ralston, Oklahoma graduating high school from Ralston Public High School boasting a graduating class of thirteen students before completing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Oklahoma State University. But a long-standing interest in space later led him to obtain a Masters in Space Studies from University of North Dakota when distance learning consisted of shipping VHS tape recordings of the previous semesters¡¯ classes. Professionally, he looks back on a varied sequence of positions in document and records management consulting, an adjunct professor teaching introductory computer science and biotechnical engineering, and the occasional attempt at being an IT corporate executive. Today, Jonathan spends his days working with NASA and commercial clients to develop systems and flight software for space stations and commercial customers. As you might imagine, this is his dream job! As a former private pilot, a former SCUBA diver, and current amateur radio operator you see he has a history of expensive and time-consuming hobbies and today you find him volunteering with AMSAT engineering. As a recent Assistant Vice President of Engineering at AMSAT, Jonathan kicked off the Fox-Plus program and expanded the research-and-development-oriented ASCENT projects.
