Re: FIeld Day press release
开云体育I like it. It has a lot of useful information and talks about the club.I think it could use a compelling? "lead line" that says _why_ would someone reading this be interested in checking it out. Like, What happens when the power goes out during a disaster? Recent emergencies like the massive power outages in Spain and Portgal, as well as large disasters in North Carolina and Florida have people wondering how they can remain in contact when power is out and cell phones can't get through. Ham radio provides a way for families, groups, and communities to communicate when other systems fail. You can see ham radio in action right here in Plano this June 28-29th, at Plano's Shawnee Park when the Plano Amateur Radio Klub, performs its annual Field Day emergency preparedness event in conjunction with clubs and organizations across America.? . . . Or something like that. Then if that catches the reporter, or whomever reads through the PR that comes in, then the rest is information they can re-juiger into a news article like they wrote it. FIeld Day press release
First draft of the press release. Three issues: The logo looks ratty - I pulled it off the website and resized it. I don't do graphics so I'm not sure what to do to clean it up. The white out didn't work. Mike - I'll need some help with the section in bold - I just threw in a few items as examples. The pr@... email is not coming to me. Rob K5WFR |
Re: Field Day
开云体育This look great. ?Thank you, Anthony. We point out that in emergency situations when normal infrastructure is down, we can step up and provide communications. My suggestion would be to also point out that even in non-emergency situations, we are not dependent on any fixed infrastructure to
do what we do.

Re: Field Day
开云体育Rob,Thanks for logging in to that. Are there any tips we might leverage for making a flyer to have on hand at the park for Field Day - and also possibly at the club table at the ham fest in early June? I quickly threw one together using Chat GPT to just scrape data, - specifically gear to non-radio people. It's a legal-sized trifold. Simple cover, three columns about the hobby, and two columns about the club. It's just a rough draft, changes and recommendations welcome. Anthony Burokas

I updated the FD page, and updated the SignUpGenius page for 2025 dates and times.
Created a new link between the two, so now any promotion can send people to PARK web page — or Sign Up Page — Last year it took some time to wrangle people for the overnight, so I figured with 2 months left, it'd be about time to start wrangling now. I updated the Field Day website, removing the link to last year's sign up sheet, as it was outdated and I hadn't made one for this year yet. I'd love to hear any thoughts from the ARRL workshop that we can implement on our Field Day web page:? Summer Field Day
开云体育Mike, with 2 months to go to Field Day, should I get the sign up sheet set up for? PSFD-2025?You had mentioned needing someone to run a GOTA station. Reviewing the GOTA rules, which were updated for 2025, I think we can use one of our PARK HF stations for GOTA. There's nothing that says it has to be set up in a different space, or different way than the rest of the stations, and incorporating it into our standard deployment means we PLAN for that antenna and RF as part of our overall activity - as opposed to arranging our setup and then the GOTA station interferes with other radios. There is allowed only one GOTA station, so we can still do HF SSB, Digital, VHF, and CW stations as we typically do. GOTA and VHF doesn't count as "transmitters" so we'd be SSB/Digital/CW 3A? plus also getting points from GOTA and VHF. I'm unclear whether the GOTA station _has_ to be on battery power. On one hand, it says GOTA is not included in transmitter total, and bonus is per (gualified) transmitter. OTOH, then it says "all transmitting equipment" must.... I invite the board to look it over and tell me which way you think GOTA falls. 1) GOTA has to be on battery because it's part of all equipment 2) GOTA doesn't have to be on battery because the GOTA transmitter should not be included in the club's transmitter total. I have also asked the ARRL for clarification. 7.3.1. 100% Emergency Power: 100 points per transmitter classification if all contacts are made only using an emergency power source up to a total of 20 transmitters (maximum 2,000 points.) === For PR:? Media takes a while to turn around, so we can probably start now with PR for the event. 7.3.2. Media Publicity: 100 bonus points may be earned for obtaining publicity from the local media. A copy of the actualmedia publicity received (newspaper article, etc.) must be submitted to claim the points. Any combination of bona fide media hits would qualify for the bonus points. 7.3.16 Social Media: 100 points for promoting your Field Day activation to the general public via an active, recognized and utilized social media platform (Facebook,Twitter, Instagram, etc). This bonusisavailabletobonafideAmateurRadioclubsandField Daygroupsthatwelcomevisitors Educational - like a Winlink or Echolink demonstration area: 7.3.10.Educational activity bonus: One(1)100-pointbonusmaybeclaimedifyourField Day operationincludes a specific educational-relatedactivity I have been trying for months to connect with local agencies, and there's even a bonus for it:
This was my collection of noes from Previous Field days, as well as some planning and outreach for PSFD2025. And once again, club members operating from home can still "participate" by including K5PRK when reporting their individual results. I think will be of interest to club members who may be medically home bound, but still want to participate in some way. Participants from any Class can optionally include a single club name with their submitted results following Field Day. --
