K4FAU reboot 3
Hi All, Gary N2XNN (with the help of others at FAU) is working hard on a reboot of the club. The main focus at this time is to find interested students to reboot the students club this fall. Why his fall? SG and COSO have rules in place for clubs that require training for the club officers that is only offered at the start of the fall and spring semesters. This will also allow for some time to find interested students. To coordinate these efforts a separate "on campus" email group has been established and if you are interested to be added to this email list please contact mahesh@... and mention that you would like to be added to the K4FAU email list. If there is anything interesting mentioned on the list or outside help is needed I will forward the email to this list of K4FAU fans. There was a kick off meeting this past Monday. While there were only 3 students (2 via zoom and 1 in person). Some great ideas for student involvement were suggested but we can always use more. Sjaak, W4RIS/PA3GVR

FW: Use of parking garage 2 for Amateur radio field day operation
Hi Guys, A little help here. Not sure how to respond. In this case we need the agreement and also the COI (Certificate of Insurance) of the Club. Look at page 2 of the agreement for details and make sure you ask to have FAU listed as additional insured and the exact language in bold to appear on the COI. You can buy one day event policy online if the club does not have one. Thanks, Corina Corina Mavrodin Asst. Field Day 3
Hi All, Gary replied to one of the emails 2 weeks ago that he was interested in doing Field Day at FAU. I just found out that BRARA might not be participating in FD so there are some people looking to participate in FD. Who is interested in FD at FAU? Thanks, Sjaak W4RIS

Equipment reply 2
Hi All, I've been out for a couple of days but here is my reply to all who responded. Gary - Recruitment of students - Great that you are trying to recruit students. Joining forces with other groups might be the way to go. Before COVID I was in contact with the FAU AXA (Aerospace Experimental Association) and gave them plans for a Cubesat ground station. - Storage on campus - Ilias has always been a great help! However, except for 15+ HTs I think most of the stuff is not worth storing. - Field Day 2024 - There might be interest for FD and we can start a separate thread for this. I will be in Czechia that weekend after stopping at Normandy for 80 years D-Day first, some work in NL next and going to Ham Radio Friedrichshafen (bigger than Dayton...) the week after Czechia (I had to brag). Steve - Equipment Auction - I was thinking of just sending a list of equipment first here and next to BRARA to see if there is any interest. I'm thinking of historic ebay results - 50%. But if BRARA is willing to do the auction for us..... maybe for a percentage? - K4FAU Trustee - There is no need to change trustee yet however if the consensus is that it should be somebody on campus we can do this. Robert (KG4UGG) - Library - Before I left I was talking to Mahesh (my old boss at CoE) and facilities to potentially place some antennas on the roof of the library but nothing came of it. Yom on Mahesh's team is licensed as KQ4ETZ. He has one of the club's radios (IC-718) on permanent loan. If there is interest we potentially could organize a class (at the library) for Tech with the help of Ron W2DO. - Breezeway - At the start of Fall and Spring there is always a "club fair". Sometimes at the stadium and sometimes in the breezeway. If we have a few students that are interested we could do this for next Fall. It is always better to have some students man the table than some faculty/staff/old ham...... Dr. Sklivanitis - Cubesat - When you mention "an FAU cubesat team" do you mean AXA as mentioned above? I created plans for a Cubesat ground station (receive and transmit with AZ-EL antennas and controller) for AXA but with COVID nothing came of it.The club has some older equipment to get started and I might also have a source for funding if somebody can write a good proposal. Just for equipment they can easily do 5K to 10K but if it is a really good proposal that benefits Amateur Radio I have seen grants awarded of 100K and more. If you need any assistance please let me know, however I think you mentioned in the past you know the SatNOGS guys so maybe my help is not needed ;-). - SDR and Center support - I think SDR is the way to get students attention especially as you can get started for $25-$35 any assistance once the club has some interested students will be appreciated. I know your center is working on some great (funded) research, but if there is room to support some amateur radio projects, please have a look at https://www.openresearch.institute/projects/ and https://m17project.org/ Robert F - Presentation - We might not be there yet but from what I have seen your presentation could be of interest once we have something going again. As an FYI to all: while his research and field of expertise is not radio related, Dr. Hill Zhu might be willing to become the club's faculty advisor.

K4FAU Equipment 7
Hi All, I hope we still have some K4FAU supporters on this email list ;-) It's almost 3 years since I left FAU and even more since we had to empty out T6. I have a lot of K4FAU equipment and misc stuff. It all adds up to 6x 27 Gal bins with good equipment and 10x boxes/bins/crates with misc Field day stuff like extension cords, ropes, and safety vests etc. I would like to reclaim the space in my garage. Some of the equipment is really good and can be used for a "reboot" of K4FAU if somebody wants to store it. The other equipment is good to be sold and the money set aside to be spent on students/new hams. I think the "FD stuff" can be donated to BRARA. I would like suggestions on what to do next. We could schedule a meetup online or IRL (in real life) to discuss what to do. Thanks, Sjaak W4RIS / PA3GVR In addition to a bunch of PSUs, 20 HTs the following radios are stored at my house: Yaesu FT-736R Elecraft K1 MFJ MFJ-9030 Icom IC-725 JSC Company 4 MHz CAP? Leaving FAU 8
Hi K4FAU list, Some of you might already know, but for those of you who don't, Friday will be my last day with FAU. I had hoped to retire from FAU but a great opportunity came along that I could not resist. Being kicked out of T6 and the past pandemic year have somewhat been a death blow for the student side of our club. I will give my full support to get it up and running again. The club needs a club advisor so we can plan for the Fall 2021 semester. I will stay on as the K4FAU trustee unless there are objections. Before Covid hit I was in contact with AXA (FAU Aerospace Experimental Association) for our club to setup a Satellite ground station with them, but it looks like they also took a bit of a break during the Pandemic. I still think we can "Build it and they will come" by setting up a remote-controlled Satellite ground station and HF station. I have been talking with FAU Library to see if we can set up some antennas on the roof. We need somebody from Facilities on our side to keep the costs low, but I think it can be a great location. All the club's equipment is currently at my house, and we should consider selling most of it and focus on some single pieces of new equipment. At this time, we have the internet link for the BRARA DMR repeater hosted in / on the Engineering building EE96. This can stay there for the foreseeable future. Amateur Radio
Hello guys, My name is Robert Feeney. I work in the S.E. Wimberly library and would be happy to help in any way I can to keep the club going. I have been a ham for a few years, but not active. Most of what I focus on is early communications history research (1844-1918). If I can somehow be of service, let me know. Kindest Regards/73, Robert Feeney Assistant to Special Collections FAU Libraries
