FW: [cwops] Florida QSO Party - This weekend!
Forwarding with permission The Florida QSO party is this weekend sure hope you get on and make some QSO¡¯s. In the video Jim gives a wealth of information on mobile HF operations. The New England QSO Party New England QSO Party ¨C 20 hours, 68 counties, the chase is on! Is the following weekend From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jim Stahl via groups.io Sent: Friday, April 25, 2025 7:25 AM To: Qsoparty <[email protected]>; CWops Groups <[email protected]> Subject: [cwops] Florida QSO Party - This weekend! The Florida QSO Party, one of the best ones around, starts tomorrow, 1600Z to 0200Z Saturday and 1200Z to 2200Z on Sunday. Mobiles make these parties, and mobiles a plenty there will be - nine of them, plus a number of roving expedition stations. Many of these mobiles will be CW only, but I will be out there trying to do both modes. While mostly CW, with some help I can be making a number of counties less rare on SSB. If you hear me on SSB, please spot me! And if I ask you to move to SSB, or if you ask me, when we get there, please spot me as well. I'll be in the no-driver category. When parked (about 2/3 of the time) going to SSB is simple. When I'm driving (recording it for later transcription) I don't do SSB, as it's too distracting, compared to pushing a button and wiggling some fingers on a key on the center console. Sounds like good earth weather in Florida this weekend, and the space weather will be good as well. A few years ago, I gave a presentation to the Northern California Contest Club on mobile contesting. It's available at K8MR Mobile Presentation I talk about my Florida operation at about 17 minutes in. I hope to work lots of you this weekend! 73 - Jim K8MR

Spring SET with NNY
Good evening all, Just a reminder, the SCARA will be setting up at the Fire Training Center Classroom tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 am to participate in the the NNY Spring SET Exercise. Here is what we need to make this a successful event: A few radio operators, one or two to operate a VHF station to relay information from around Saratoga County and compile a list to be sent via via 60 meter phone to the NNY NET. We need a couple of radio operators to send and receive net traffic (messages) during this exercise. This exercise runs for about 3 hours, this is not an all day event. Get in and get out. We will start at the FTC at 9:00 AM If you are unable to make it to the FTC, please feel free to check into the VHF NET with a signal report that will be relayed to the 60 meter net. I will supply the ICS forms for this event. I will supply some tasty donuts. Florida QSO PARTY | "Avast! Prepare to Plunder the FQP Seas"
Forwarding to the group. Having done the FQP from both in Florida and from New York it is always a lot of fun. There is usually good propagation between W2 and W4 on at least one band. The Florida Contest Group makes sure all counties are on and there are several mobiles that make sure to spend extra time in the rare counties. The mobiles will tend to spend more time on CW than SSB especially if they are running low power. Complete details are at https://floridaqsoparty.org/ Ahoy, ye Salty Dogs! Shiver me timbers, this be the year o¡¯ the PIRATES at the FQP! So heave to and belay all them landlubber chores come April 26 & 27, and set yer sights on plunderin¡¯ the golden doubloons of countless QSO¡¯s, all 67 FL Counties, and the 14 fearsome 1x1 PIRATE ships awaitin¡¯ ye! Overtake the mighty Florida Armada ¡ª from the grand fixed galleons to the swift mobile and expedition sloops ¡ª all sailin¡¯ the airwaves ready fer battle. A mighty cask o¡¯ grog and the sweet taste o¡¯ a full sweep be awaitin¡¯ all ye scallywags thirstin¡¯ fer glory and adventure on the high seas o¡¯ radio. 2025 New England QSO Party is coming soon!
The New England QSO Party on May 3rd and 4th is a great time to check out antenna systems and offers a moderately paced opportunity to work new states and countries. You'll find a wide variety of participants, from newcomers to experienced contesters, all interested in making contacts with New England stations. Our goal is to get every one of the counties in New England on the air so we hope you will encourage your members to join in the fun! Even if you can only join the fun for a couple of hours, we'd appreciate it! Will you be QRV? Let us know with a message to info@... The New England QSO Party is 20 hours long overall, in two sections with a civilized break for sleep on Saturday night. It runs from 4 pm Saturday until 1 am Sunday, then 9 am Sunday until 8 pm Sunday. Operate on CW, SSB and/or digital modes on 80-40-20-15-10 meters. For each QSO you'll give your callsign, a signal report and your county/state. Top scorers can earn a plaque and everyone who sends in a log with 25 QSOs or more will get a certificate. The goal is to work stations anywhere in the world - and their goal is to work New England stations, so you'll be very popular! Last year we had logs from 212 New England stations and 516 more logs from around the country and world. The full rules are here -> www.neqp.org/rules The 2024 results were posted last weekend -> https://neqp.org/2024-new-england-qso-party/ It's just under three weeks until the 2025 NEQP. Please make some QSOs even if you don't want to send in a log! Thanks! 73 Tom/K1KI ¡ª www.neqp.org May 3-4, 2025 Tom Frenaye, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093. c: 860-597-4539 h: 860-668-5444

SCARA will not be handling communications for the ADA Tour de Cure 3
Folks: The Board of Directors of SCARA has decided that under FCC rules, we, as amateur radio operators, cannot work under the for-profit company that the ADA has hired to run all their Tour de Cure events in the USA. The minutes of the special board meeting are attached and will explain in more detail why we made the decision for their 2025 Capital District Tour de Cure. The board hopes that we will once again be able to handle communications for the 2026 Tour de Cure. Jim K2LM Secretary SCARA

FCC Express Filing comment form
I heard that a few tried to file comments on the FCC website which will default to the ¡°standard filing¡± page which is very convoluted and not user friendly. However there is a express form which is at https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express The only thing that is not obvious on this form is the first fill in box. *Proceeding(s): Specify the FCC proceeding(s) to which your filing refers Fill in 25-133 in this box and the rest of the form is pretty self-explanatory. Here is a screen shot. 73 Brian NJ1F
