WOW!!!

?

This past weekend¡¯s CQWW SSB contest was truly one for the record books. I hope that you got on the bands to experience the solar peak and the awesome conditions. If you got on please share your experience with the group.

?

I was one of the operators at the K1TTT multi multi doing several hours on 160 and 80 meters which was not much fun as usual because everyone was on the high bands. I did operate on 10 meters for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon thru sunset. During my time on 10 meters, the band was open worldwide. I had the stack of antennas pointing west and north plus the fixed south antenna for the JA and pacific opening. While CQing and having JA¡¯s, VK, ZL and the usual pacific with some south American stations answer my CQs. I also had several European stations and even an African station call! These stations were in complete darkness but the ionosphere was still able to propagate their signals.

?

On Sunday morning after church I felt like operating but all the bands were in use at K1TTT so I turned on the K3s and got on 10 meters. Even with 100 watts and a dipole it was a rush to start at the bottom on the band and dial up the band calling stations. I worked 65 stations in 29 country¡¯s in a little over an hour. I did check and there were stations from 28.300 MHz to above 29.200 MHz! ?That¡¯s a lot of stations using almost 1 MHz of the band.

?

In my other post on Friday I said that it would be possible to work DXCC during the weekend. I am attaching a picture I took of my N1MM screen on Sunday morning showing that when the picture was taken there were 106 countries spotted on 10 meters with 604 stations to work! By the way there were 100 country¡¯s on 15 meters. Yes 10 meters was the place to be on Sunday morning!

?

NOAA and NASA reported last week that this is likely the peak of the solar cycle and the sun will begin to head to the minimum. The solar cycle is averages 11 years so we do have a couple of more years to enjoy 10 meters before the solar flux is no longer high enough for 10 meters to open on a regular basis.

?

This coming weekend is the ARRL Sweepstakes CW contest which is followed by the SSB version in three weeks and the we have CQWW CW which should have similar propagation as the past weekend.

?

Get on the bands and have some fun!
