Digital ops - FT4/8 F&H mode? 6
Any K2B ops who want to use F&H mode in FT4 or FT8, there is a raging debate among the states/colonies as to whether this mode should be permitted. As my digital operation is zero, can you opine? My understanding is this is a mode only used by DXpeditions, and allows them to harvest 100-plus QSOs per hour. Do we care? Should we care?

Scheduling spreadsheet Link
For some reason I lost the link to the 2022 spreadsheet and a quick search in the topics on the groups.io page for 2022 didn't turn anything up. That's not to say it isn't there, but it wasn't easily found. So I created this topic to help those as challenged as I am. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YS78aBErLURfT0W4x6hioz_Xn-vZxu_trC-r46aRE9k/edit#gid=1400000382 73, be safe, have fun! Rick N1RM

Spotting problem 7
I can't seem to spot myself on dxscape and without that I'm just wasting a time slot. ARRL isn't forwarding my email for a password. 73, Bill/K8SYH

Self Spot Failure
DXScape will not send me a password (I've tested my connection to ARRL.NET). With no effective self spotting, I'm only wasting my effort. I'll try again tomorrow, but I've never had good luck spotting with DXScape. At the best, my spots appear with an astericks. I've reached my daily quota for frustration. Hope you guys have a ball. First session went great! 8
Nice conditions and good ops on 40M CW. Don't forget to spot yourself - it really helps! If you use N1MM and are already connected to a cluster, just put K2B in the callsign field of the entry window and hit ALT-P. Then don't forget to hit CTL-W to erase the entry so you don't log yourself :) 73, have fun, run 'em! Rick N1RM

Time Slot Question 8
What a list for me: First time with a Special Event First time with a Google Spreadsheet First time with Google Groups Hope this is the way I am supposed to ask a question? The Question - If I have time open up and I am not signed up during that time, can I just find an open slot on the spreadsheet, put my call in that cell and start operating? I am thinking I will have several windows over the weekend that I could operate I just cant schedule it for sure in advance. Justin - K4HXM

40 CW 2
Lots of QRN! Worked about 120 on my first shift and sometimes, it was pretty hard to pull out the weak ones. It's interesting to see the variety of CW skill levels compared to a contest. I tried to run around 25WPM and I had all kinds of responses from straight keys, bugs, unstable VFOs, awful CW and all kinds of speeds. I think that's one of the reasons I really like doing this event. Variety! Looking forward to future shifts. Stu2, W7IY

First session 2
40 Meter phone 144 Contacts 7:00pm to 9:00pm 40 meters Slow speed CW only 6 contacts between 9 and 11pm. Kept getting stomped on by faster Ops taking over my frequency. Knocking the rust of the fist is harder than I thought. Using a new Bengali Camel Back purchased at Hamvention this year.

Day 1
I ran 40 phone 11 am - 1 pm yesterday and logged 264 contacts. FT8 on 15 in the 3 to 5 pm slot was another story. Calls were pretty constant and all but one or two completed successfully but I still logged only 59 contacts in 2 hours. My problem during that slot was not allowing my concentration to drift. Staying focused had not been an issue during the phone run! A lot of Europeans called on 15. Thunderstorms started right after I signed off at 5 pm so I was lucky to have been able to finish out the whole time slot. I’m using the N1MM+ 13 Colonies UDC with the WSJT-X plug-in. Backed up the log to ADIF after each slot. Keep having fun! 73, Kay N3KN

Noise Floor
Good Morning All, My noise floor is 10 over on 80, and for that matter on 40 as well. I am unable to hear just about anything. If anyone is available to pickup the 7-9 shift, it would be great. Thanks in advance if you can. I did work 9-11:30 last night on 40 and got around 300 contacts. Had to stop because the brain was jelly at that point but people were still calling. This is all a lotto fun. Good luck to everyone! Blue Skies! Linwood Linwood Campbell linwoodcampbell@... linwoodcampbell.wix.com/homeqrz.com/db/K2LLC (Amateur Radio)

Newbie questions 4
Paul N4PD encouraged me to GOTA as K2B (Louisa County), and David K2WPM told me to go ahead and sign up for some slots. I think I'm ready to go, but have questions. 1. What frequencies? Where do y'all hang out? 2. I know the exchange is supposed to be RS(T) plus state. Are ops adding anything else? 3. Is anyone signing off with 76 instead of 73? I.e., on CW: TNX ES 76. Just a thought. 4. Any special CQ, e.g., CQ 13 or CQ 13 COL? 5. TX power level? Thanks for all info and pointers. -- 73, Mike N4CF Louisa County, VA USA Elecraft K4d / KPA500 / KAT500 Carolina Windom up 45' http://n4cf.mdodd.com

40 FT8 this morning
After a seamless handoff from WA8AHZ at 11 AM, I made 92 contacts on 40 FT8. Fortunately, 40 is behaving like 40 right now -- not going so long that you can't work the closer-in states. The most interesting contact I've had so far in the event was being called by W3SA on 40 phone yesterday morning. The previous holder of that call, who's been a Silent Key for some years now, gave me my Novice test 40 years ago. 73, Kay N3KN
