K1000 EX Ensemble Expander upgrade
Hi Olaf,?
I suspect that the answer is (sadly) no. From what little I know of the EX (I've never seen one in the flesh) it's essentially a preset module without as many editing and upgrade facilities that the other modules have. Being a preset instrument (albeit a very good one) I don't think it's upgradeable to any extent. Essentially, to produce a PRO 3 you'll need all the HX and GX soundfiles on chips, and with a suitable OS (v.5?) to run everything. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - unless anyone else knows different? Best wishes,? David. |
开云体育I have upgraded my PX+ and SX to full Pro versions, as you have written, by adding sound chips, new OS and changing some junctions on the motherboard. All these files for programming Eproms are available.? I don’t know details about EX, but if it has inside empty sockets, it should be possible as well. Daniel Forro

开云体育There’s not much info about EX on the net. Here they mantion it can be upgraded to PRO I version. Daniel Forró

Note, all those sound chip codes, including the 5.0 OS, are on K1000.net, ready for burning. Remember to match button numbers -- the 8 button OS set isn't going to do the job with an EX.

I don't know if Roger made the jump to this list, but this is something I'd think might benefit from his knowledge as to what's possible. Sent from my HAL 9000 in transit to Jupiter -----Original Message-----

Yeah, with one exception (A GX) all 13 of my 1000/1200 machines are fully upgraded. Very much worth the effort.

Hello, I am back after a while.
Today I finished the K1000EX restoration. There go some details that may be useful for another users: - The cold solder joints/broken joints on the power suppy were present; so it was needed to resolder de connectors that suppy power from the PSU to the motherboard, as is documented for other models. - The upgrade to Pro1 with the set of eproms available on k1000.net was unsuccessful; with the new OS eprom the unit didn?t boot up, so I went back to the original OS eproms, and it turned on again. - In the process of removing old sound chips, they were corrupted so not all sounds were sounding good; this was solved replacing the original sound eproms present on the 1000EX with their equivalents on the PRO1 set; so I can confirm that U50, U51, U54, U55, U58 and U59 waverom chips works perfectly as replacements on the 1000EX models Thanyou very much for support! Thanks to Daniel's hint, finally I can confirm that 1000EX upgrade to Pro1 is possible, just enjoying the extended presets ? There go some pics: El lun., 27 sept. 2021 13:57, Daniel Forró via <danforcz=[email protected]> escribió:

开云体育Glad I could help a little bit :-) I upgraded my SX and PX Plus to Pro1 and Pro2 few years ago. Daniel Forro

You will need 6 programmed Eproms to fill out the sound banks, and 4 programmed eproms for the OS.? You will not need to remove any of the existing sound bank chips, if upgrading to a PRO2.
?
At the same time, I would replace that large power supply filter cap, pull the battery and replace it with a CR123 holder.
?
I currently provide a kit to replace the battery, and provide the 10 programmed chips to do a full upgrade to a PRO2 unit, or the 16 chips for a PRO3 upgrade. I also have a kit to replace the LCD unit.
?
If you upgrade to a PRO3 unit, you will need to pull U51, U54, and U59.?? You'll need 12 Soundbank eproms and 4 OS chips.
?
Your board is all socketed, so you can do either upgrade.? Both upgrade will require you to make sure the jumper is set.
?
The upgrade is relatively simple, if you go slowly.? I've upgraded 4 units to PRO1 (not possible with the SX/HX/GX/AX/EX motherboards), 4 units to PRO2, and 3 units to PRO3, so reach out if you need more help.

?
PS:? If anyone actually purchased the soundblocks to upgrade any of the PX/SX/HX/AX/EX units, I am looking for the official IC Chip?????
??????? numbers for the ICs in sockets U52, U53, U56, U57, U60, and U61.? The numbers will be A00x00_-0_.? If you have a PRO3 with?
??????? factory EPROMs, I'm looking for the official IC numbers for all socket posiitons.? Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations! I ordered the pro1 upgrade set from eprom pro and located the jumpers to change. I read about the power supply solder fixes and now will look into a replacement capacitor as well!
?
I did not realize pro3 was an option for this unit. Maybe I'll get on that in the future! |
