BUILDING DUO 900 ITALY
Hi Bernd and to the whole forum
I started building the DUO 900 Italy for one of my clients.
I'll be posting some pictures on the forum soon.
90% original built boat, except the hull connecting beams, I will build them in composite resin / plywood / fiberglass.
Bye
PS There is no lock-down in Italy yet but he doesn't stop me either ... :-)) |
Domenico
The boat building company in Turkey never contacted me what the want to change. For instance a center rudder will not work well on a boat with such a high? L to B ratio. The construction of the fore beam is like a sculpture. To you, do not change anything on the boat (besides the beam connectors. The original was sailed from Argentina to France. Look at the wind direction prediction for the region he had to sail the boat. The wind was logical for 90% of the time against the course direction. The high L/B ratio of the hulls and the asymmetry were making the journey to a success. The boat sails wonderful to windward. The asymmetry minimalises yawing in big waves by his dynamic. So slender hulls give not much play for error in the design and the construction. Weight is very critical. So, if you want to change something, consult me first!! Bernardo |
In fact, I proposed to the customer the DUO 900 for me it is the fastest boat of its competition and in the Mediterranean it is fun to sail since there are no great navigations between one coast and another.

Returning to the boat made in Turkey, I have already told you that I do not like the stern (behind), with that central rudder it is too excessive a weight, which I can move elsewhere. In the DUO 900 Italy the rudders will be two, the small engine will be central with a bracket (which is sold) and the wing mast that collapses (like Corsar trimaran).
For me, the boat must be comfortable to carry on a trolley, including its mast, so that I can travel all over Europe.
?
As for some small changes, the customer asks me if it is possible to add some panels aft to reach the two hulls.
The two beams of boat connections, I'll show you some drawings as I have in mind to make them in marine plywood, fiberglass and epoxy. So you tell me if it's okay as I have them in mind, or do it differently, as you think. |
Hi Bernd
?
I made some drawings (not exactly precise) but you can see the way I want to make the connecting beams and all the wheelhouse.
I also made the new line behind the boat the shape of the planking so as to sit well with the back supported. What do you think about it? ![]()

Hi Bernd
I have added new photos on the DUO 900.
I applied epoxy primer and I wait for the welder to finish all the welds of the pipes (forestay connection, mast base, etc.) and paint. Even the pipes will be painted, just a little away, only the pipes, trampoline and etc are all jobs that I can do in December.
Now on Monday 4 October 2021 I start the second construction of the KD122 and by the beginning of December I finish the two hulls. |
