Eco 65 houseboat "Galadriel"
Hi guys, please let me introduce myself to you. My name is Holger, I'm living in Rostock, Germany at the Baltic Sea coast. Last month I started to build the next ECO62 house boat. It's a stretched to 6,5m version and will get a more semi classic superstructure design, so I call it Eco 65 classic ;-) I've been watching Günters and Jens' building progress from the beginning, we are in contact contineously sharing our experiences. As you can see in my album, I'm working with simple tools using a hobby room in my house, since the weather outside does not allow any working with epoxy. I've just finished building the bulkheads and the stems (whithout the cutouts). Next step will be building the bended parts of the stringers. From April to October, when the yachts are in the water, the building site will be a large boat shed at my sailing club. Until then I'll prepare the smaller parts. I'll keep you up to date here, if you are interested, you may also watch my progress in our German community: By the way, this my second boat building. The first one was a kayak that I designed and built 2 years ago. It's a 4,80m? double seater from cheap plywood and was inspired by Jim Michalaks Toto. If you are interested, you may read this little story about it (in German):? Have a nice evening (or whatever it is at your site), best, Holger |
No Sir, lol
I've been luckily married for 23 years and, as long as there's always time left for wife and family and building happens just in that room there's no reason to worry about that... The parts I'm building right now are not larger than 2' by 2' and normally the door of that room is closed. We just placed the bulkheads along the floor to show the dimensions. The large parts will not be built inside. Seems that I found the right woman to live with ;-) |
Hello Holger
Thank you for your nice introduction..?t is funny to see the 3 different boats from the same drawing sets and all under construction in Germany. Good start so to see. There is always a way to go when you have your mind set. Good that you will have a good working space at your club. So please keep us posted. Ich habe mich k?stlich über Deine "Mauz" Beschreibung amüsiert.? Thanks again Bernd? |
开云体育Hi Holger,Beautiful craftsmanship. Will be good for the family that you don’t use the loud tools like routers and electric planes.? A tip on cleaning your tools: use cleaning vinegar. As long as epoxy is not cured it falls apart with vinegar. So much better for your health than aceton.? Give it a try, you will like it. For the dust collector I use this device between the nozzle and the vacuum, and I never changed a dust bag since. The vacuum keeps full power all the way: Keep up the good work! cheers, Pepijn

Hi guys, please watch some new photos from me in my album. Building progress is going on :) Next smaller things to build were the bended parts of the stringers. I want to pre bend them to reduce pressure and deforming forces when later assembling?the complete hulls.? Each is?glued together?from three stripes of wood. I used some scrap wood to make a bending jig that follows exactly the shape of the bow. First I glued the four deck stringers for both hulls. To build the sheer stringers, I prepared the jig with some screws and wooden pieces for "3D bending". That allowed me to bend and glue them into 2 directions. The photo is showing the two sheer stringers for the left side of the hulls. The ones for the other side will be bent?in the?mirrored direction. Best, Holger |
Hi Bernd and all you watchers around, Greetings again from the Baltic Sea, Rostock, Germany! I just uploaded some new photos, wow, last time was February? Time for letting you know what happended here in the meantime: Just to remember, my plan was to build the bridgedeck first and then assemble the hulls on it. I'm not a snake, so I needed some horses or cradles to put it on. In March I got a 5m wooden box from scrap. On one of these rare sunny days I took my Japanese saw and gave it a second life as six 2.40m long horses (fig. 016 to 018). What a change!? Spring and especially Easter were really cold here, I needed to find other things to build (019). But sun won the battle, they melted down to the grass and I could start scarfing stringers and the plywood for the bridgedeck. My building site in our sailing club boat shed was still occupied so the garden was my next one (020 - 025).? Scarfing the plywood was a really dusty job. I never knew how fast my wife can get the clothes picked from the clothesline, but now I know ;-) Don't worry, I'm still married. Must be more carefully I guess... As I did with the deck stringers on my kayak before, I pre-bended the keel logs in advance. Car jacks and carports are not just for cars, they are good boat building tools as well (026, 027). The logs still hanging there waiting for their time coming. But soon.... End of May I finally could start using the boat shed. (028? and following). As you can see, the progress is going on. The latest picture (044) was taken this morning. Please enjoy watching the photos, I'll keep you up to date, I promise ;-)? Have a nice day, best, Holger |

Hello Holger
It is so funny how many of us starting building there boat in the berth room. We did the same by the way. This looks all very professional. Thanks for the pictures. The give a good impression from your build. The Japanese saw is a very interesting and useful invention I have never seen one in action, but is so to so a very universal tool. Good, keep us posted.? Have a nice weekend Bernd? |
@ all Is anyone able to help Chris to log in to this site? (Sorry, I'm not.) He is a member of this group and receives the posts as emails, but without the login to yahoo he is not able to see any pics. (I remember that yahoo was changing something months ago and I also had trouble with log in. But I don't remeber how I resolved that problem. And now my computer does ist for me.) Gru?, Günter |
Hello Günter
When somebody orders a study or normal plan he gets included?in the?In the accompanying letter the link for the Forum. He has to be admitted to the group. The reason, most groups include a lot of talks which do not belong to the issue of the design.?The building, sailing, files, addresses are here to help to build your boat. So we restrict the access. But, when he has a study plan or plan from my design he will be admitted. He has only to tell what he has ordered and will be admitted and can see all. Güsse? Bernd ? |
