Top Exercises For Scales/Triads 2
I eventually got all of the books in Billy Bauer's Guitar Instructor series plus a couple of books with solos (after two subsequent orders) and I'm quite please with these although I'm not had time to work through them at all yet. I also got the second volume of Basic Guitar Studies mentioned long ago in this thread. It doesn't correspond to any of the books available in the Billy Bauer online store - it's a completely different book. (Apparently books typically go out of copyright 70 years after the author's death, depending on the country, so there's a while to wait for it to be legal to share online although you might be able to argue "fair use" if they are out of print. Good luck arguing that with the Don Andrews books mentioned in the other thread since those books' publisher, Albert, apparently switched entirely to managing music ownership rights rather than actually publishing books.) However, it's probably not worth bothering to get hold of based on what's in the second volume - it looks like fairly standard material (like arpeggios, etc) that you can get from other books that are still in print (and the Guitar Instructor series books are a lot more interesting), William ---In jazz_guitar@..., <akmbirch@...> wrote :

Don Andrews Plectrum Method 9
The recent discussion on William Leavitt's book recalls me a plectrum method written by Don Andrews. It was a very complete method book, I felt that it was up to, of not much more than the standard of William Leavitt's book. I only have book 3 though. Does anyone have seen this book or have any experience to it? Besides that, from a Ted Greene interview, Joe Pass put out a complete method from the beginning, only to be splitted by Mel Bay to what we have today. Does anyone have seen that book as well? Regards

Gear for recording? 6
On often see video postings on the web (e.g. YouTube) with folks playing guitar over a backing track/song. And the player has either headphones or earbuds. I assume they are hearing both the song and their guitar while they are also recording their audio and video. What is the basic setup to do this? (In terms of current gear, I have a MacBook Pro and M-Audio Fast Track USB.) Appreciate the guidance.

How are posts organized by topic? 2
I am new to the forum. I want to post a question related to recording gear. I was expecting to see postings organized by topic. But I don't see that. Am I missing it? Sorry, just want to post questions according to the forum protocol (particularly in the correct area [e.g. gear in this case]). Thanks for guidance (did not see in the FAQs)

Hal Leonard Real Book 6th Edition Vol. I 4
A friend took notes for me at a recent Jazz Jam. For one of the songs we played, she wrote "?" for song title and page 387 for Real Book I location. I purchased the Kindle edition of Real Books, which do not have page numbers, unfortunately. Could someone please tell me what song is on page 387? Thanks!

Posting on the group web site ? 5
I can't post a message to the jazz guitar group from the group web site. I type a message, hit send, the message disappears, but I never see it added to a conversation (or a new topic). Can someone guide me here? Something basic I am missing. Thanks

Recording gear
For home recording of an audio video, what is a basic setup using a MacBook? I see videos of guitar players with headsets. And they are playing over a backing track/song. I assume they hear both the backing track and the guitar in the headset. And they are recording everything. What basic gear and software is used to accomplish this. Thanks

Newbie - I do not see "Topics"
New to forum. Am i missing something with the interface? I do not see any breakdown by topics. I was looking for a topic area specifically to recording. Appreciate any guidance. Also, when I hit "send", it seems my posts just "disappear". I have no idea if they are posted. How do I review my own sent messages? Thanks

Berklee College of Music 23
Hi All I have been playing jazz for many years. Completely self taught. I have always found the need to take formal training. I found a couple of instructors and for some reason or other it didnt work out. I am thinking seriously about taking the Jazz Certification course in Berklee College (its an online course). It seems to be rigorous enough that I would be exposed to chords and scales in a rigoroous manner. My goal is to understand chords and scales completely and I think that will close most of the gaps in my knowledge and allow me to expand (hopefully) into Jazz much more creatively (am stuck in some ruts right now). Any advise from the members will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Billy Bauer books was: Re: Top Exercises for Scales/Triads 5
I was wondering if anybody has any recent experience of buying books from www.billybauersmusic.com and also can possibly give an idea of what the books are like? I came across the website recently and purchased a couple of books about a week ago which haven't arrived yet (which isn't an especially long time since they're shipping from the US and I'm in the UK). However, it seems odd that I didn't get an acknowledgement for the purchase from the website (although I got a receipt for the payment from PayPal). I attempted to e-mail them recently and it appears that the main contact e-mail address does not work (my e-mail message bounced with an error message from a mail server). I have sent the e-mail message to a different e-mail address from the website (which is the same e-mail address used for processing payments via PayPal) and I haven't received a reply yet. (That was only about a day ago and at least I haven't received an error message about my e-mail bouncing yet.) Also, somebody promised to post a review of the books on the Acoustic Guitar forum but failed to follow up. I was going to post a reminder on the forum; but the moderators haven't approved my registration on the site yet although it was a day ago. It seems such a labourious process you may have to be grandfathered in as a member years ago or be one of the moderators' buddies, William ---In jazz_guitar@..., <akmbirch@...> wrote : [snip] Billy Bauer's books have now been reprinted and are available for sale online: http://www.billybauersmusic.com/index.htm -- Alisdair MacRae Birch Guitarist/Bassist/Educator/Arranger http://www.alisdair.com

Rare Lenny Breau
Stumbled across this in a search for Lenny Breau music I haven't heard before. I was pumped to see Waltz for Debbie on the list. Not great quality but if you're into Lenny it'll work. In fact, the host site has a lot more to offer regarding music. Cheers! https://archive.org/details/LennyBreauLiveMississippiWhiskers77Disc3/01ScrappleFromTheApple.mp3

Legendary Jazz Guitarist Larry Coryell, 'Godfather of Fusion,' Dies at 73 5
Sorry if this is a duplicate, but I didn't see that anyone posted to this list that Larry Coryell died yesterday. He was 73, just performed a few days ago at the Iridium, and died in his hotel room in New York City. Here's an article from billboard about him. Here's some free sheet music 3
Dropbox changed some things, so here's a new link: Here's a collection of 2000 arrangements for solo guitar: jazz (chord melody), classical, folk, and some pop (especially Beatles), by a number of gifted arrangers including Howard Heitmeyer and Yves Keroas. They are in the Tabledit format, and can be read, played and printed using the free TEFView reader for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS. Standard notation, tablature or both can be displayed. Tempo is adjustable. When you play a piece a cursor follows the music and a fretboard diagram shows finger placement, to aid in learning. A Yahoo group at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TablEdit/info has tech support. The pieces are at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m2e7ons2xkf9iz2/TEF%20Files.zip?dl=0 TEFView reader is at: http://www.tabledit.com/tefview/ A manual for TEFView, which is barely necessary, and an introductory video, are at: http://www.tabledit.com/tefview/uses.shtml Enjoy, John R.
