Jimmy Bruno Status Update (Was: Jimmy Bruno Is Critically Ill)
Jimmy Bruno, a musical hero of mine and a dear personal friend for many years, is critically ill in a hospital near his home in suburban Philadelphia. A month ago he had a seizure due to a head injury after having fallen in his home.? He remains on a ventilator in the hospital. His improvement has been very slow, but fortunately he seems to be moving in the right direction. Please keep him in your thoughts. Rick Goosenberg P.S. If any of you know Jimmy and would consider making even a small contribution to his family's "Go Fund Me" account, search for "Support for Jimmy's Family" at . His family doesn't know that I'm posting this note here, but I know that his medical expenses will be astronomical so I thought it was reasonable to post a note like this to the group. I hope no one is offended by my post. |
Oh crap, thanks for the update.

Zeek - I didn't post anything more because there wasn't a peep of a response from the group to my initial post. I rarely post to this list and I guess Jimmy is not especially familiar to members of the list. Jack Wilkins is a close friend of Jimmy's and I suspect he has been updated. Unfortunately he isn't doing well. I'll send you a message privately.

I'm pretty much a lurker here. I enjoy Jimmy's music and have his video course. I also contributed to Jimmy's fund. I suspect there are others, like me that are quiet yet wishing Jimmy the best and would love to hear how he is doing. If you wouldn't mind posting to the group, I would appreciate it. I missed the initial post... what happened?
Apparently Frank Vignola is currently in dire straits as well? At 01:13 AM 8/26/2017, you wrote:

Please post the link to the crowd-funding campaign again.

Please keep us posted. Jimmy is in my thoughts and prayers. A wonderful player and teacher, indeed. Wishing you all the best, Mr. Bruno! I hope Jimmy knows how much he's loved and admired.

Did Jack Wilkins post to this thread earlier? ?If so, I don't know which e-mail message he sent?

I'm a student on the Jimmy Bruno Guitar Workshop website. ?Jimmy Bruno's family posted a video on the website giving an update a few days ago (21st August). ?My understanding is that his condition got somewhat worse; but it has stabilised now (in the sense of no longer getting further complications) and they have been able to take him off the ventilator. ?I could give a bit more information; but I don't want to post something inaccurate and I would need to review the video which I don't have time to do right now. ?Actually, I think the video has been posted on Facebook as well so people can see it themselves:?
Assuming his condition does not get worse again, it still looks like a long road to recovery, unfortunately, William |

Thanks for the update. Judging from a month old update on ,?he was in really rough shape and has gone through a lot. I hope he is able to recover fully.

I will be sure to let Jimmy's family know of the kind words from members of this list. Unfortunately there isn't much good news to report. He stopped having serious medial complications so he was able to leave an acute care hospital (that's good), but he's still on a ventilator. He is in an "subacute" location near home. His mental status has a long way to go though he has moments at times when he recognizes his family. Hopefully the future will be rosier. For someone who is "a little rough around the edges" and hasn't been able to make much money playing jazz (yeah, I know how few people are able to do that), he has always been a remarkably warm guy who is extraordinarily generous with the little that he has. A great player, great teacher, and a fine man. I hope I'll have better news in the coming days. Rick |
开云体育Thanks for sharing that. I don't know what to say, except that all prayers and hopes are with and for him. Hopefully as he feels better, his depression will subside. It's a long process. best, Bobby |
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate Jimmy's candor, and his attitude and views may change over time.

This video was forwarded to me. In it Jimmy speaks about his current situation.
A bit depressing. Watch with some caution. ?

I spent some time with Jimmy today and reminded him that his recovery may not be complete for well over a year, and it's only been just over two months since his accident. He's been frustrated with the life of a jazz musician and that he doesn't mind if he can't play the guitar again, but I don't think (as a physician, not as a guitarist) that he'll never have the ability to play again as he did before. He also will be continuing to get physical therapy at home, so hopefully he'll be able to walk and get back to life in the next few months. His desire to do it will be a big factor. I hope he'll play his instrument and maybe even teach again, and his feelings may change with him returning home this weekend after a long and difficult time away. It's really fascinating to spend time with him and watch his recovery. Hopefully he'll be a lot better in time.
