The wiring harness on original Strats is really heavy duty
cable. Same applies to Gibsons.

I have often wondered if the cable of choice for Fender was in
fact automotive cable, I read that the three way switch was a spare
part from radio receivers and that Fender necks were designed to
be a replacable spare part.

The only other place I have seen Gibson screened (and heatproof,)
cable is in certain oscilloscopes.

I have no doubt that this quality contributes to the high electrical
reliability of older guitars.
