Re: Pat Martino's Star System
It's explained By Pat himself on his web site: http://www.patmartino.com under the 'Nature of the Guitar' link. Follow the links at the bottom of the pages, it's around page 3 or 4. -Dan

Chord Khancepts (was Re: Learning the fretboard)
to as I finally got Steve Khan's book. It is very good at the practical aspects of showing you hip voicing ideas in a usable context and giving you a play-along to practice it with, but it does little

Re: Wholetone and Diminished scales
You can use the diminished scale in almost any tune . . . even over the tonic chord.

Re: Boston, USA: Show
I live around the corner from there, so very good chance I'll make it! I'll be playing on the street in nearby Harvard Square, Cambridge, during the day, with my funk/fusion band . . .

Re: Wholetone and Diminished scales
I would use these scales over dominant chords or chords functioning as dominant. Practice playing the scales through the cycle of fourths and concentrate on notes to resolve the scale. ex

Yup, every Monday night at the Up Over Jazz Cafe in Brooklyn on Flatbush Avenue. I think musicians pay $5 to get in -- but you may want to check that. Best, Lynn
