Wait a minute... I just reread that.....did you say "you invest", as in "I invest?????????"

I've turned your offer over to Helen Wate, my accounts expert, for review. For a final answer, you'll have to go to Helen Wate.

OK, but here's how we'll advertise it:
"Even if you can't sing "Happy Birthday", our on-line course will have
you playing like the BEST of Tal Farlow, Lenny Breau, and Julian Bream
COMBINED after only 4 lessons. Please send in advance $350 per lesson x
4 ($1400), and we will send the first lesson. After sending it back
completed, we will correct it and send the next from your remaining
monies kept on account (on account of because we need it).

disclaimer - your results may vary; not all students are worth a shit"
This makes sense... I would only add: "will have you playing, with both fretting hands, the BEST of (....)" (since they will have to play in front of a mirror...)
;~)

Re: Demise of Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute

Hi Chris,
And, it depends if the person is new to guitar or
already has the basic mechanics of fretting and picking cleanly
already established. I certainly wouldn't want to teach myself
guitar if I was a complete beginner, just by watching youtube
videos and the like.
I'll go a step further.
My guess is that for someone to make the most of any good on-line course, he'd better have more than basics under his fingertips. He'd best be pretty advanced to begin with.

disclosure: I say this never having really seen Jimmy's course, except for very little. But if I use that of Charlie Banacos as a musical standard (maybe applicable, maybe not), it is not meant for beginners.

From the little I have seen of Jimmy's course, it is a treatise on how HE thinks the guitar and music. It is not a generalized "This is how ya pay Jazz Guitar" method per-se, but more a "This is how I play and think Jazz Guitar", which is what it should be, and why it (IMO) is probably more ideally suited to fairly advanced players. Obviously lesser players buy/take the course, and I'm sure they get something from it. If his on-line course eventually establishes Jimmy as one of the great teachers of all time, though, I feel it will have been from the more advanced students who are able to grasp and make use of the more advanced concepts of a great player.

As with all things, lots of frogs to kiss, very few princesses (or princes). Charlie Banacos did not take beginners, and placed a mandatory time frame on completed assignments. It's less lucrative, of course, but it does keep the standard high.

best,
Bobby

"Zip me up before you go go"
*LOL* Will ... apparently his first night in jail, the other inmates were singing alternate versions of his hit songs. That might have been one of them!

What does
that have to do with his homosexuality, admitted or otherwise?
The bathroom bust/entrapment was a few years ago, and not related
to the car accident/canibus bust.
We have solved the problem in Montreal, 3 offerings: Ladies, Men, All others except under 18.

Hi Marc,
Not the same person, Bobby, because a well-designed "E-learning" tool
requires a team, an organization and quite an investment.

E-Learning. I suppose the two can exist in the same person, but I've
rarely, if ever, seen it happen.

It was interesting, however, to enter into class online discussions with students, literally, from all over the world. This was seven or eight years ago, so with advances in e-technology, I would think some of what I perceived as drawbacks may have been >eliminated, or at least lessened.

Yeah, I guess a mixture of a (very) well-designed online course with occasional live encounters with (very well-designed - ;~)) teachers would be the best of both worlds. This is what they recommand anyway in books in E-Learning.

To my knowledge, there is no accurate test for THC.

There have been cases here where a cop pulled over a driver for obvious DWI, and upon finding pot in the car, gave the driver the choice of either charge. Wise drivers took the pot charge. Maybe that's what happened. We'll never know (or care).

I'd be reluctant to accuse the arresting officer of homophobic motives.

And yet another variable. Given only 2 choices, I would greatly prefer learning through a guitar master's on-line course, such as that by Jimmy bruno, than an on-line course from someone who has a Master's in E-Learning. I suppose the two can exist in the same person, but I've rarely, if ever, seen it happen.

e-learning, was Re: Demise of Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute

When I was studying for my last master's (library and information science), there were two courses that only fit my timetable in their online versions, even though I live less than a mile from the university. I found the content comparable to, if not more, than any of the on campus courses. I also found them more difficult as I didn't enjoy the online interaction with the professor and students as enjoyable or rewarding as personal interaction. It was interesting, however, to enter into class online discussions with students, literally, from all over the world. This was seven or eight years ago, so with advances in e-technology, I would think some of what I perceived as drawbacks may have been eliminated, or at least lessened.

This is obviously true, but it introduces too many variables to keep the discussion meaningful. Comparing good teaching to good on-line instruction is the only way to discuss it, IMO.

From these posts, it seems to me that the subject line ("Demise of Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute") is a little premature. He's apparently just splitting off on his own.

best of luck to him,

From the article:

Michael served half of an eight-week sentence in jail for crashing his
car while under the influence of cannabis.
How do you guys over there test for pot?

May we look forward to his next world tour of
Gent`s toilets ??
I hate to sound "out of the loop", but what does this mean?

John: Crashing his car under the influence of pot? Man that must be the good
stuff!

Sounds like a phoney excuse to jail him for being an embarrassment as an
openly gay performer.

That is what the joke is about Gent's toilets. Since that is a stereotype
that is used against gay people. Not all of them find that a turn on.

Best, John
