I'm thinking of getting the Band-In-A-Box Pro Version (Lowest version) for the
iMac. Just wondering if anyone has encountered problems or does it work
seamlessly. Thanks

Re: Band-In-A-Box

The pro version is a good way to go. I don't know if it is seamless
but most stuff properly written of the mac os does work that way. It
is well known that 99% of problems are user caused. Mostly from not
knowing the operating system well enough [ my weak area ] or the app
itself. If you like the idea of real tracks and the way they sound
the small version allows you the choice to pay for the tracks you
want. The real drums for my ears are the best feature. One thing the
real tracks does is get you out of the realm of sound chip quality
sound. The samples are not top quality but way ahead of any sized
sound chip on a sound card. These are rated in megabytes. The BIAB
samples are gigabytes of information. If possible get it in the
audiophile version if possible or get the next biggest version. The
sound will be much better. And every thing is set up, configured and
ready to swing. Let us know please how you like it.

Hi Angelo,

She's full of shit!
that was my point. Don't forget that at the time, the head of the FCC was Colin Powell's son - a perk he got for promoting the Iraq war to the U.N. with those falsified documents.

-------- Original Message --------

Hi Robert,

"... There are even those who consider that the Lacey Act is
unconstitutional,
but it's

apparently never been tested all the way."

I believe that the Lacey Act is unconstitutional because it is impossible
to know when anyone has complied with it. Neither the importer/exporter
knows nor does any government official know all of the laws in all of the
countries
of the world. These laws are written in different languages and even if
you had
memorized an English translation of them, it still would not be sufficient
because
most countries have laws that specify that in any conflict between the
original
language of the law and a translation, the original version prevails.

Besides assuming that everyone is a legal expert in the laws of all the
countries of the
world, the Lacey Act assumes that every guitarist, lutenist, or luthier
also is
a plant expert.
One of the many problem for traveling musicians is that on old instruments,
some luthiers don't even know the species of woods used to make the
instruments.
Also, the law is vague about how far anyone is expected to go to
exercise due
diligence. If 1, 10 or 100 luthiers or plant experts cannot identify a
particular material
on your old guitar, how many more experts must you consult?

The permit applications are designed so that you must list the Latin
name of all
the species
of woods in the guitar and all this information has to be accurate. You
can't
tell the truth and
claim you don't know what something is even if you don't. Any honest
mistake in
the
identification of a species will be assumed to be an intentional lie.

The law's vagueness may also be a reason to suspect unconstitutionality.
However, I don't know anyone willing to risk a decent instrument
(probably one
that
sounds great, costs a lot, and is easy to play) just to test the law.

It's interesting that the violinists got a free pass with their bows,
but not
guitarists. I guess
there are not enough of us or perhaps we are not as politically well
organized
as the violinists.

Before I traveled to Spain with a guitar, I inquired with the Consulate
about
what was required to bring a
guitar into and out of Spain, with respect to CITES and Lacey. The only
paperwork that the Spanish government
wanted was a receipt to prove that I purchased the guitar and was the legal
owner. Somehow, this receipt
was also supposed to prove that I would not sell the guitar in Spain.
Perhaps
the safest way is to travel
with an inexpensive (and small) guitar made of light-colored wood that
could not
be mistaken for
Brazilian rosewood and with no inlays just so no one would suspect it
had any
white abalone.

Best regards,
Marion

The FCC should not be concerning itself with content. It should be enforcing

I think I heard this week where the FCC is gonna look into the overloud

OT, Humor: Vintage ads

Some of these are so funny I had to pass it on to the group. Rampant sexism seems to be the biggest problem with many of these ads, kind of shows how far we've come in a generation.

It also may be a good idea for each of us to go to Yahoo and check out prefs. Every time in the past that Yahoo made a change, it was always to gather and distribute our personal information to outside companies.

Re: ADMIN: The New Yahoo Groups Format

Hi Will,
This shows what can be done if people care enough
to write or email.

Imagine what could be acheaved if 6000 jazz list members
all wrote a letter to the government complaining that there is
no decent music on the media or that there are few oportunities
for live musicians.

I recently got a reply from our deputy Prime Minister promising
to review the current "Gig tax" on live music.
Well, don't get your hopes up. On this side of the pond, I complained (by phone, to a live person) to the FCC about TV services blasting the commercials way over the volume level of the shows (when you have a flu, you really don't appreciate that sort of thing), something which is illegal. Her answer to me was that Yes, it's illegal, but we don't intend to do anything about it, and she hopes I understand how hard it would be to enforce.

Oh, well. Is the "non-war" in Viet Nam still going on?

best,
Bobby

For those that use the iBook app, the new upgrade is a very big deal. Not only
does the app have the chords to hundreds of standards, andyou can make you're
own charts for any tune or style, and transpose them with a push of a button...
but now it plays the charts for you as a playlong, in any style, tempo you
want... It's really amazing. Goodbye Band In A Box, Ambersol, etc

They have nothing to do, now. They will need to look like they are earning

We don't need them, this whole group could switch in two seconds, archives,
