Unless some one else in the area is more needy than me this owner is holding this LGT165 tractor for me.
I'll get it if no one else wants it (I don't need another tractor but don't want to see it go to a scrapper - as his ad says he's open to). Probably pick it up Wednesday or Thursday.
If someone contacts him from this forum just let him know you saw my post (Randy's post) on here (told him I was posting it) and you'll treat it with respect.

Hope you get it.

I would love to have that but I would have to have it shipped as I am in Buffalo, NY. ?I’ve been looking for that exact snowblower for my 165.?

I just contacted the lister and noted below (basically I can come get if he's OK with me disassembling and hauling in two or three trips).
I also have another Peerless 2500 transaxle and the Eaton pump... supposed to be good and looks great though doesn't have all the fittings and parts like linkages.
I've been wanting one of these Jacobsen designs.? That and the rest of the parts for the IH CC 107 and I'll be good on all my missions for garden tractors, though locally I think I still have the IH related CC parts somewhere I can go get when I want them. Those Jacobsens have been a trip... four up in Alpena and everytime I was about to go get or arrange like the last time for someone to truck down... sold like the day I contacted them seemed if I remember right. There was a Homelite I think in Three Rivers that I wasn't able to get to and seems the rest I've found are way outside my $50 limit... that somewhat can budge.? Though, man the free ones sure are nice.?
Anyways, here's what I wrote:
Saw Randy's post on the Ford Jacobson LGT groups.io forum and he noted someone else can come get and I'll treat it with respect. Thing is, I'd rather come disassemble in two or three trips versus drive over with my long bed pickup since would still be less in gas and wear and tear since I'm on the west side of the state. Though if you're OK with me taking apart to haul... I'd get no problem and love to restore. I actually recently hauled a later model Ford LGT that's the Gilson design with the oppie Kohler Series 2. That was three trips... though I did make a first trip just to work on since I wanted to only load the other trips for the most part and I had a load full already. You can see that in my posts. I've actually hauled a John Deere 240 from over by South Lyons, a Cub Cadet 2185 from Ionia and a White GT185 from Cadillac... where the Cub Cadet like the Ford LGT I did in three trips since those weren't missing anything. I also hauled the like the JD 240 and IH CC 107 minus the engine and additionally minus the front axle assembly... though that was in Allegan. Just let me know if that's OK and I'll plan accordingly since I'm on a pension and then we can coordinate timing and all. Thanks in advance for your time. Kind Regards, In Christ.

I actually drove over to Madison WI area to get a pretty much free Ford LGT 42" Snowthrower that's the solid with a fat tube auger blade single stage design.? That and the subframe part.? I figured the gear box alone would be great to have and that subframe part since I was a little wishy washy about the snowthrower itself... though reads like works as a plow blade good when clogged.??
I'm not sure I'd use actually ever, since I own a few walk behinds and JD design ones and prefer to hand shovel for the extra winter excercise.? Same goes with the plow... I made a rule not to use for at least another decade for snow... unless I need to for some reason like do snow removal on the road in an emergency.? I'll keep you in mind if I find I'm heading out that way... though guessing won't be this time of year unless the route road conditions are good.?
Technically, I got the extra single stage JD 42" solid auger blade to make a cement mixer with once I get a front end loader fabricated with the backhoe fabricated... since those two come first in the queue.?

I am scheduled to pick it up Mid-Day Friday from him but I'll let him know I'm fine to let him pass it on to you if he wants to deal with that. He did say to me he just wanted it gone and I think he's doing me a favor holding it rather than dealing with a multi-visit disassembly, not sure how he'll respond and might make me look bad too. If you REALLY want it you may have to bite the bullet, bring your truck and trailer and just get it the h*!! out of there.
If I get it I will look it over and make my final decisions from there.? Right now I am seriously considering parting it out so others can keep their LGT's going which I consider respecting it by keeping other LGT's going.? I know the one guy in Buffalo is looking for a snowblower and I already have one. If he's interested and we can agree on a price I can probably have it shipped to him via the Fastenal Store network for around $200 to $300.
Like I said I don't care if you get it but don't be making me look bad, and if I get it I'm most likely going to making sure I compensate myself for my time and effort.
|
He seems good and noted you're picking up Friday.? He even noted he was sorry and wanted gone in one go.? I don't have a trailer, only the long bed pickup with the 360 before they went to variable cylinder designs.? The Prius (I call Jeep) amazes me what I can haul with, so prefer to use.? She's beat up, though does the job reliably and way less in gas than the truck, four to five times the expense.?
Which way are you heading with?? Towards west Michigan by chance?? Would you be up for letting me disassemble and haul in a few trips... I'd even pay you I'm thinking and you can keep the engine since I'd prefer to install in one of the opposed twin's I have, either that Series 2 Kohler or one of the Briggs and Stratton.?
I really appreciate you offering and your time and effort and resources rescuing.? The Jacobsen's seem like a great design and that's why I wanted to rescue to restore one at first.? Though amazingly through the power of Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace... I've come home with unmteen other free or under $50 ones... I only have some of the related parts and the Ford (Gilson) LGT17H that I figure I better rescue even though they're all really not my original planned GT's I wanted to use.? ?:-)

Once I do I'm going to give it a good look over before I make any final decision on what I'm going to do with it. There may other things I would want as well. If what I see on the back wheels are cast steel jacobsen wheel weights those are staying with me as well if I do decide to either part it out or pass it on
|
Totally understandable.??
After missing out on so many great priced (this is the first free one I've seen), I have this feeling deep down inside that the powers that be have me rescuing to restore the Gilson designs now that I have two YT-16's and the one LGT-17H, where the one YT-16 I've started modifying with a hydro rear end and we'll see what else gets upgraded from stock.? Interesting seeing how that Peerless 2500 on the LGT-17H integrates with what appears a similar to the YT chassis for a horizontal shaft engine design, as I hadn't seen the design until I got and for a time was thinking about how I'd integrate that Peerless 2500 into the modded YT as that's where at first I planned to install... then decided the bigger of the two White GT185's hydro's seemed like an easier retrofit.??
Thanks for keeping me/us posted on this and rescuing!

Well everyone, got it home today and upon closer inspection it doesn't appear to be a good candidate for restoration.? First off, although the engine turns freely the owner who operated this (not the guy I got it from - he got it from a neighbor) appears to have ran the engine without an air cleaner for a period of time.? Engine turns freely, maybe a bit too freely - with no compression at all.? I realize the Kohler engine has a centrifugal decompression cam but I'll have to check it against mine to compare.
I think it's a parts machine, so hit me up if anyone thinks they may be interested in anything. I won't want much for anything if you want to come get it yourselves. Say $50 for the snowblower assembly or the same for the rear end. Sheet metal is more or less straight but hood has rusted off it's hinge bracket and one lower peg in front of one of the side panels has rusted off as well. The rear edge of the fender pan is a bit tweaked but not bad. There's also a roughly home made weight box on the rear that holds a 5 gallon bucket of what looks to be iron shot (because it looks rusty). If it turns out to be lead (haven't checked yet) I'll keep the lead. But anyone can have the frame.? There is no lift cradle underneath, the previous owner made a bracket (first glance it appears to be bolted on) mounted to the snowblowers lift arm that attaches directly to the tractors hydraulic lift.
Right now I am planning to keep the engine, rear wheel weights (still not sure if they are Jacobsen or some no-name brand) and the tire chains. Maybe the gas tank too unless someone needs one. It does not have a matching set of FRONT wheel hubs, looks like the the right side was recently replaced with a new off brand wheel and tire.
If someone wants an item like the snowblower (worn and a bit bent on the top lip but not rusted out, appears to be saveable) or hydrostatic rear end shipped I'd want at least about another $100 for packaging up the snowblower onto a pallet and delivering it to the shipper. And probably another $150 for removing and palletizing the rear end. I also would probably only want to deal with shipping thru Fastenal because they are close to me and I've dealt with them before. You would have to be the originator and payor of the shipment at your Fastenal location.
I can post pictures or make quick youtube videos if anyone is interested.

Looks like it's missing the plastic T Handle on top (\something similar probably easily obtained thru Mcmaster - Carr) and whatever hardware needed to attach it to the missing cradle below.
Won't charge anything if you're close enough to come get it yourself or have someone in the area that can do it for you. $20 plus shipping if I remove it and send it to you. ($30 if removing it draws blood AND takes a inordinate amount of cuss words)

Snowblower is gone, sold it 2 days ago. It did manage to go to someone that has a couple old Jacobsens, is a fan of them and appreciates them.

Still have the 2 speed hydrostatic rear end I wouldn't mind selling (funny that this one DOES NOT have a oil filter on it).? Also, I recently saw a youtube video about this style Jacobsen tractor stating the rear end has a limited slip differential - not sure if I believe that cuz I am pretty sure if I throw a tire chain when I'm snowblowing that I stop like RIGHT NOW and spin a tire. Anybody know for sure?? I guess I could try not being lazy about it and dig out my owners manual and see if it says anything about it.
