1650 Jac

I have been looking on the web for Jac 1650s that are for sale, because I am going to have to sell mine.? I don't know if they weren't that popular, or if they have just become a member of the families that own them.? The guy I bought it from said that it was his deceased dad¡¯s favorite toy and he really wanted to restore it, but the engine was shot and he couldn¡¯t afford to do so.?

The Kohler parts were already very expensive and I probably paid too much for it, but I understood where he was coming from.? I'm now 80 years old and my kids want me to "down size."

It is all original except for the seat, tires and a new starter.
I completely overhauled the engine when I got it a few years ago, including a rebore, valve regrind and carb and ignition.?
At that time, I also replaced the belt and blades on the mower, plus a few misc. parts that don¡¯t detract from original, bearings, etc.

I was planning on painting it but time got away from me, too many other fires to put out!

I plan on selling it on eBay, because as I understand the rules, I can¡¯t sell it here, but don't know how to price it.? Don't want to give it away, but also don't want to scare a potential buyer away by being ridicules.?

My first experience with Jacobsen Garden Tractors was in 1973 when I designed a trencher as allied equipment for a GT 16.
I was impressed with the people at Jacobsen as they were very easy to work with.? Not so much some of the other manufactures.

The GT 16 didn't have enough hydraulic outlets for our purpose and they had no problem OK'ing my addition of extra lever, valve and piping, which they then added as optional equipment.

It did a beautiful job of trenching, actually, way beyond our original expectations.? We had originally thought of it as being a tool for electricians only but it had no problem with a deeper/wider trench.
I also designed a trencher for a number of other tractors, including John Deere, Bolens and Simplicity, but the little GT 16 was my favorite.? Kind of ironic since I am a John Deere man at heart, at least my wife says, "I bleed green."?

I wish I would have latched onto one of them when I moved on, but I guess, hind sight is still 20/20.

A fellow named, Bobby Bruneau, has one of my trenchers on the back of a?1978 Bolens HT 20 and Bulldog Trencher, with a picture on yesterdaystractors.com.?

We have become friends, long distance, because of it.? I had been looking for a trencher, just for nostalgic purposes, couldn¡¯t find one, when I discovered Bobby¡¯s.? He told me he bought it from a member of the Bolens club that he is part of, who lives in Australia.? I don¡¯t think I would want one that bad!?

If any of you have a general idea as to the value of my 1650, I would appreciate a heads up.
Thanks

Sarge/Tony?

Sure you can sell it here, you just have to? make sure it is listed as a subject of Classified and then "For Sale"? ?Jerrie

Thanks Jerrie

I thought this site was only for discussion, but I still have to figure out what it is worth.?

The old adage, that states "one man's junk is another man's treasure," is also true in reverse.? I think it is a great machine and wish I had the time to finish it, which was my original plan.?

The only thing that I don't like about it, is the fact that it doesn't have power steering and it was, and still is, a plan of mine to add it.?

I guess, no matter how old I get, I'm still a frustrated engineer.

I cuss the engineers of today for putting out such shoddy workmanship, but at the same time realize that they are controled by the market and very few people apprechiate quality any longer.? My daughter is an engineer.? One day, I was berating all the engineers and she said "dad, I am one."? To which I said, "do your job and I won't include you!"? We both had a good laugh.

Lately, I have been submitting a few of my "inventions" to Farm Show Magazine.? I think the count is about 15 so far, with more to come.? I don't remember which one next months issue is going to include, so I will just have to wait and see.

Some are just common sense and some are one-off machines and tools, that have made my life much simpler.

And you also have to include your zip code in the listing.
