I could not say this if it were not true. And the incredible thing is that Dennis Dove, Johnny Cat, and myself (Mike "Pops" Phillips) have been the house band since day one (20+yrs). It was started at a time when there were only two places to play, JJ's and Princeton Landing w/Stan. Now, there are jams seven nights a week and twice on Sunday. Musicianship has gotten incredibly good and younger people are beginning to notice. Behavior has been modified and egos diminished to "well mannered". Come out tonight and participate, 135 Murphy Avenue, S'vale, 8:30-12:30. No sign up sheet, bring your axe and join the fold. It's been described as church but the music is the message. Individually, The Blues Defenders have played with some of the greats in blues music from Tower of Power, Doobie Brothers, Boz Skaggs, Cold Blood, Johnny Lee, and other legendary greats who shaped the world of blues music. The Blues Defenders can "hold their own" on any stage, and are the West Coast support band for the great Mississippi Blues-man "Johnny Rawls".
