Teensy not working when plugged into JackAl board
Finally getting around to this project.? Wonder if anyone has suggestions about where I might have gone wrong.
I'm going though the "Initial Checkout and Troubleshooting Procedure", and all is fine through step 3.? Just to try out the Teensy, I installed the Blink program.? I cut the trace between VIN and VUSB, put the Teensy on a breadboard (disconnected from the computer), and after applying 5V and ground, I see the LED blinking.? Then I inserted the Teensy into the JackAl, applied power and I don't see the blink.? I confirmed 5V and 3.3V are present on the correct Teensy pins. My setup can be seen in the attached photo. I am using external supplies for 5V and 3.3V temporarily.? Nothing else is connected to the board at this time, and the Audio Shield is not yet installed.? Should the Teensy be functional in this arrangement?? Is there anything obvious that I'm missing? This group has been pretty quiet for a while.? All who have built the JackAl must be happily running it at this point. Thank you. -- Chuck WB6GPO |
What happens if you connect 12V to the power jack? Jack, W8TEE

Hi Jack, thanks for the quick response.? The two thick wires in the photo are bringing 12v to the board.? The two switching supplies also use that 12v to generate the 3.3 and 5 volts that would normally come from the onboard regulators.? Another poster hooked it up this way (see post /g/JackAl/message/1112), so I figured this would work.?? The 12v comes from a Heathkit 0.5 amp supply.? I know that's not enough current for the display (I'll be using a 12v battery when I get to that point), but it should be enough for the Teensy.

Keep us posted. Jack, W8TEE

I found that if I bypass the buck converter and put 5V directly on the JackAl, then the Teensy works.? So time to put the regulators on the board.? On to the next dumb mistake!? Thanks. -- Chuck WB6GPO |
I rather see you using a PS with enough power for the board. The USB connector will supply the voltage for the Teensy. Jack, W8TEE
