JackAl BOM Question?

开云体育

Hello --

If someone could sanity check me --??I just finished building my jackal , and was proceeding with the checkout and testing.

thankfully I caught this before applying 12V to the mcu --? I am getting 12V on the 5v rail and 10V to the MCU VIN pin

in the JackAl BOM in the assembly documents --

It says

the description is a 5V 1.5A regulator

however the part number is LM7812CT -- this is a 12 Volt Regulator; not a 5V?

I am guessing the part number should be LM7805 ???

looks like I naively bought the part number specified in the BOM without checking the specs ... no harm no foul, but the maintainers of the instructions may want to update the documentation.

Many Thanks for a cool project -- James // K0FE

That was changed months ago in the BOM.

ok - thanks!? I printed out the instructions and put them in a 3-ring so I can make notes while I worked on the project.? Must of been months ago ?

I have another question if you have the time?

I went with the 7" display, and tested it - (JackAl + Encoders + Display) - the encoders work, the display calibration didn't display (I'm using v.96 of the firmware) - I'm going to reflash the mcu to be sure.

the HIM displays on the LCD, it runs - for about 3 or 4 minutes;? the 3.3v Regulator gets scorching hot, and then shut downs.

it's pulling about 650-660 mA according to my meter.? But the v3.3 reg gets blazing hot -- I've got a smallish (20mm?) aluminum heat sink on it.

I've tested it and made sure that it's not shorting out (searched the reflector -- looking for suggestions)

my next thing I'm going to try is

I've ordered a much bigger heat sink from Mouser,
and I'm thinking about replacing the 3.3v Regulator with a LM1084 ??

what do you think?

Thanks

Jack,

?

Is there another BOM floating around out there ?? I just checked the BOM that’s in the files section and it still lists the information James referenced below.

?

If that isn’t correct where is the correct BOM located at ?

?

Thanks

?

Jim

Unfortunately, the posts were on our JackAl site, which was hacked. I'm away from my system, but if they aren't on the group site, I'll add them when I can. Meanwhile, use the BOM I attached to the email.

So the BOM that is in the JackAl Assembly Manual (Ver16) section 2 is the current BOM for a board shipped yesterday?

There are two BOM. One for the SMD parts that are already on the board and the extra parts you need to supply for the board. I've attached both.

Great thanks

I actually have all of these parts in my bins labelled "future project resources" lol
