Reds Meadow/Mammoth Exit NOBO

Am planning to do NOBO staring at Kennedy Meadows and exiting at Reds Meadow. ?But just discovered Reds Meadow Road and associated trail exits are closed during the week this summer due to road construction. ?Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative exit path to Mammoth? ? ?Trail entry/exits closed include Beck Lake, Fern Lake, Fish Creek, High Trail, John Muir Trail North of Devil’s Postpile, John Muir Trail South of Devil’s Postpile, Minaret Lake, River Trail and Shadow Creek. ?They are open on the weekend, but plans would bring me to Reds during the week.?

You could try the Mammoth Pass Cutoff trail, at Upper Crater Meadow. This takes you to the Twin Lakes trailhead and a free shuttle into Mammoth Lakes.

There is a huge fire going on in the Kennedy meadows area. I think PCT is closed in that area.?

yes, just discovered the closures around Kennedy meadows myself. ?Looks like I'd have to enter at Olancha Pass. ?Anyone done that entry point before?

thx - very helpful - that should work nicely.

I just completed a short backpack trip and used the Duck Lake Trail to enter and exit.

Exit at Reds and take the Mammoth Pass Trail from there to Horseshoe Lake, where you can pick up the shuttle into town.

Mammoth Trail, Red Cones or Duck Pass.?

Duck pass trail, south of Reds maybe 10 or 12 miles.

Yeah, I'm glad I started in late June from Walker Pass to get through the Kennedy Meadows area before that fire erupted.

I may have seen the early stages of that fire from the top of Mount Whitney. There was a smoke plume from that general area when I was at the summit.

Exited at Onion valley, but hoping to get back on the JMT/PCT NOBO from there after a little rest, recuperation, work, and gear repairs. Hope fire and weather permits.
