Moderated Lottery frustrations

I've camped at Anvil late in the season (Aug-Sep) and the water was good.
I don't think it will dry up.

There was water near Anvil camp in but I am not sure if it runs all season. I was there pretty early in the season, in late May. ?

The elephant in the room is the apparently common practice of people grabbing permits for their Plan Bs and Cs and then sitting on them while they continue to pursue their Plan A. If and when they getting their preferred permit, they may or may not cancel their contingency permits. This was touched on earlier in this thread. But canceled or not, these contingency permits are out of circulation for some time. It seems disingenuous to me for us, as a group, to complain about permitting difficulty while at the same time condoning permit hoarding.

We camped well above Anvil last August, when Edison for example was? as drier than I have ever seen it .? Had plenty of good water on a tributary.

As Don mentioned multiple permits cause problem but really, rolling out permits day by day, vs all at once, encourages that as you really are almost crazy if you don¡¯t choose the earliest date that is conceivably possible vs the best date which, in a high demand online registration means you¡¯re only going to get one crack at it so you go right to plan A. Either way cancelling asap is proper.

The one benefit of all these popular permits being in one system now is that you can¡¯t hold the same dates in different areas anymore.

I think it's only permit hoarding if you don't release the permit if you get a better one. The original permit is Plan A until you get another one, even if it is Plan B or C in your personal preference. Yes, it's out of circulation, but so is every other permit that's been reserved. The difference is that there's a chance it will come back into circulation. You can't exactly tell the hiking world that they are not allowed to apply for another permit if they have one, but you should never hold more than one unless you are planning to use them - that's the only "poor practice" in my opinion.

You know, Granola, you are mistaken : this group is moderated by the very same wonderful people who run main JMT group and yearly branches and the Ladies.
People have perceptions, but we try to focus on the trail.
I like all inclusive groups and not just ¡° ladies and gents¡± , because I draw enormous benefit from guys experience and tool use etc
As a musician I try very hard to unite and not divide, like ¡° non denominational church¡± sort of.
The perception of pandemic is still very raw and we lack the whole knowledge of the situation and how it really happened.
So everyone is free to choose the group they want to follow.?

I'm just going to state my intense dislike of racist comments like the one Adrian posted earlier on this thread. I suppose this group doesn't have rules or policies, and people can say what they want, but it's a very exclusionary behavior. Thank goodness for the FB Ladies JMT group; they don't tolerate crap like that.

How about we all just leave the political commentary outside and focus on what unites us.

Yes, please. We get enough politics elsewhere. Please keep this forum for hiking and backpacking.

This group does indeed have policies.? We don't want political discussions here.? The entire social media is out there for that purpose.? Please don't post incendiary comments in messages.
