Wow, folks aren’t joking about the permit situation! Just checked Inyo and SEKI and most popular trailheads for August 9 are gone.

I still intend to get an Inyo permit for later in August but for those who might be looking for an alternative elsewhere that requires no permit reservations at all, I wanted to suggest the Colorado Trail, or for a shorter section more similar to the JMT distance, the collegiate loop. ?I thru hiked the CT in 2014 and hiked the west half of the collegiate loop. Check it out if you’re looking for a quota free adventure this summer. I loved the collegiate section.

Yeah, I tried to do the Collegiate loop last year. Still wish I had pushed myself to finish.

I ended up doing Antero, Shavano, and Tabegauche from a short section of the Colorado Trail, but got 14er fever and didn't feel like doing the full loop.

I did get to climb nine 14ers during the trip, so not all bad.
