Stephen Douglas Wright (1955-2023)
Stephen Douglas Wright June 23, 1955-September 2, 2023 Stephen Douglas Wright was born June 23, 1955 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Wilma (Kleese) Wright. Steve was raised in the Washington and Keota, Iowa areas and graduated from Mid Prairie High School. Following high school, he attended Iowa State University earning a degree in Agriculture. As a young man, Steve worked different jobs until he began his career at Vermeer Manufacturing. He had lived in Attica, Iowa since 1978. He worked in the jig department for over 25 years prior to retirement. In his retirement, Steve worked for Everly Electric in Knoxville. He was a member of the Gavel Lodge in Attica, Iowa. Steve was a very social person, he never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting and making new friends. He cherished his family and especially loved his grandkids. Steve passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics at the age of 68 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur; son, Brian Speicher; brother, Frederick Wright and brother-in-law, Sonny Phipps. Those left to honor Steve’s memory include his children: Nathan (Kari Bruxvoort) Wright, Aby (Chuck) Reitzel and Michelle (Chris) Brooks; grandchildren: Trinity Wright, Rae Speicher, Douglas Wright, Gabrielle Wright, Lucas Reitzel, Conner Fowler, Parker Brooks and Peyton Brooks; mother, Wilma Wright; siblings: Rita Phipps, Karla Maxwell and Joseph Wright; many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. A Masonic Service for Steve Wright, age 68 of Attica, will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home; a visitation will follow from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Jack Lee Dillon (1936—2023)
Jack Lee Dillon February 26, 1936 — August 30, 2023 Wellman, Iowa — Jack Lee Dillon was born February 26, 1936 in Washington, Iowa. The son of Marion and Wilma (Ellis) Dillon. His early years were spent on the farm south of Wellman then moved to a farm Northwest of Keota. He graduated from Keota High School, attended 2 years of college through different schools and the Community College of the Air Force. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1954 and spent 20 years, 2 months and 10 days, before retiring. After retiring from the Air Force he entered into a career in Law Enforcement, being a Washington County Deputy Sheriff for 25 years, retiring in 2000. Jack was united in marriage to Marilyn Joyce Graf on August 9, 1958 in Albany, Georgia. He was a member of the Wellman Baptist Church, were he has served as a deacon, past president of Wellman Rotary, Washington County Board of Supervisors, Mid-Prairie School Board, past master of the Dayton Masonic Lodge #149 and American Legion past post Commander. Jack enjoyed tinkering in his garage and basement, doing woodworking, genealogy, listening to classical music, shopping, sitting on his porch and spending time with his family. Jack passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Keota Health Care Center in Keota at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Joyce; two daughters, Deanna Griffith of Kalona and Patricia (David) Schuller of Swisher; four grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Houston, Kristen (Ryan) Harrelson, Morgan Ebel and Jonathan (Amanda) Schuller; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Sue Dillon and a brother, Scott Dillon both of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law John Griffith. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Wellman Baptist Church in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Edmund Richard Reed (1938-2023)
Edmund Richard Reed, 85, of Winterset, Iowa, formerly of Keota, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at Reed family farm in rural Washington County. Memorials have been established for various children’s organizations. He attended school in Keota, Iowa, where he graduated from Keota High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Janice Samuelson on August 22, 1959, in Washington, Iowa. Edmund farmed all of his life in the Keota area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed traveling the world and telling others about the love of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Janice Reed of Winterset, Iowa; son, Stanley (Sammie) Reed of South English, Iowa; son, Scott (Teresa) Reed of Corydon, Iowa; daughter, Susan (Perry) Stover of Winterset, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Edmund is also survived by his sister, Rose Ellen Stelton of Washington, Iowa; brother, James (Arbie) Reed of Washington, Iowa; brother, Dan (Mary) Reed of South English, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Marcella Reed and Audrey Reed of Washington, Iowa. Michael "Mike" John Durian (1958-2023)
Michael "Mike" John Durian 1958 - 2023 Michael “Mike” John Durian was born Dec. 13, 1958, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Howard “Hoddy” and Clarabelle Ann (Kaska) Durian. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1977. Mike was united in marriage to Candie Cool in 1999 and to this union they were blessed with their daughter, Victoria. They were later divorced. Mike worked for McComas-Lacina Construction. Mike was an outdoors man, he enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, Iowa sports, Minnesota Vikings, fishing and most of all spending time with his family. He was known to everyone for his bright smile that lit up a room. Mike's biggest love and legacy was raising Victoria, and the bond they shared was second to none. Mike treasured his nieces and nephews, and was like a second dad and cool uncle wrapped up in one. Mike passed away Saturday, June 15, 2023, in Wellman, Iowa at the age of 64 years. Mike is survived by his daughter: Victoria Durian of Coralville; stepson: Brent Cool-Ramsay of Iowa City; five brothers: Pat (Goldie) Durian of Mississippi, John (Robin) Durian of Tiffin, Tom (Marcie) Durian of West Branch, Jim (Jennifer) Durian of Cedar Rapids and Terry (Missy) Durian of Cedar Rapids; three nephews: Shawn (Brooke) Kauffman of Coralville, Shane (Damaris) Durian of North Liberty and Austin Durian of Cedar Rapids; five nieces: McKenna Durian of Cedar Rapids, Brittney Durian of Chicago, Ashley Durian of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Reagan Busby of Cedar Rapids and Laci (Luis) Gonzalez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Victoria “Vicki” Durian and Mary (Jerry) Kauffman. A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wellman. Officiating will be Fr. Bill Roush and Deacon Derick Cranston. Dennis McDowell (1934-2023)
Dennis Dean McDowell March 26, 1934 - January 18, 2023 Dennis McDowell, 88 year old Woodward (Oklahoma) resident, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in Mooreland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Dennis Dean McDowell was born on March 26, 1934 in Kinross, Iowa to William Wayne McDowell and Eva Leona (Westfall) Oldaker. Dennis grew up in Kinross, Iowa and attended Keota schools and graduated from Keota High School. His mother and step-father moved to Texas two months before his graduation so he stayed with his grandparents, who were from Keota, Iowa. Dennis started working at Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America in Conroe, Texas. He met the love of his life, Lela Mae Groce at a drug store in Conroe. They were married on December 1, 1955 in Groceville, Texas. They were blessed with two daughters: Lesa in 1956 and Denise in 1959. They made their first home in Conroe, Texas before moving to Victoria, Texas, Muleshoe, Texas, Sigourney, Iowa before settling in Woodward in 1970. They have lived here since that time. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America for 41 years until his retirement. Dennis loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. He coached baseball in Texas for years and then helped coach his grandkids teams. He enjoyed metal detecting, playing the guitar, and baseball. Dennis was a member of the Eager Beeper Metal Detecting Club, the Woodward Coin Club, and the Woodward Wrangler Square Dancers. He loved his family and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lela McDowell of the home; two daughters: Lesa Semmel and Dale Haskins of Woodward, Denise Holloway and husband Louie of Mooreland; grandchildren: Jason Semmel and wife Lacey, Scott Semmel and wife Keitha, Lance Semmel and wife Angela, Mason Holloway and wife Mica, Magon Lauchland and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren: Cheyenne and Callie Semmel, Jaden Semmel, Allyn Jane Goodson, Cole and Drake Parker, Kason, Kessler, and Maris, Lauchland and Jace Hartman; other relatives and many friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Leona Oldaker and stepfather Martin B. Oldaker and his father Wayne McDowell.
