Ralph Gibbs
May 4, 1955 - October 21, 2024

Ralph Lew Gibbs, of Colo, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home on October 21, 2024 at the age of 69.


Ralph was born on May 4, 1955 in Berlin, Germany to parents Ingeborg Pirschick and Rollen Gibbs. They moved to Colo, Iowa when Ralph was a young age. Ralph attended Colo High School and graduated in 1973. Ralph and Linda Poling were married on January 22, 1977 in State Center, Iowa and they had two beautiful daughters, Ashley and Brittany. They later divorced, but stayed close.


Ralph worked at Handy Industries in Marshalltown, Iowa which manufactured motorcycle lifts. Handy was acquired by Janco Industries out of Sully, Iowa in 2010 and Ralph continued with Janco. He had many positions within those companies, most recently managing the packaging and shipping area. He worked hard and was often the first to arrive and turn the lights on. He retired in June of 2024.


Ralph was an animal lover, especially his beloved Grizz and Della. He looked forward to the Good Guy’s car shows all year and seeing the 1960’s & 70’s muscle cars. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, watching NASCAR, fishing, and listening to music.


He is survived by his children Ashley (Bill) Cran of Ames, Brittany (Kasey) Jones of Zearing, Linda Gibbs of Colo, sister Barbara (Emmett) Valline of Ankeny, and niece Kimberly (Jason) Dodd of Pittsboro, IN. Grandchildren Brady, Brooklyn, William, Hadley and Gentry. Great-nieces & nephews Tarynn (Ben) Gifford, Keely (Todd) Maricle, Reece Dodd and Hunter Dodd. Great-great nephews Colter & Renan Gifford and Great-great nieces Rowann & Alainna Dodd. He is proceeded in death by his beloved mother Ingeborg, brother Paul, father Rollen and grandparents Paul & Hildegard Pirschick and George & Harriet Addalen.


A graveside service will be held at the Colo Cemetery on November 9, 2024 at 11 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Colo Community Center. Lunch will be provided.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Story County Animal Shelter in Ralph Gibbs honor.
