I have an old photograph of Haley and Elsie GATES which was taken at the Gillett Studio in Ottumwa, IA in the 1890's or early 1900's. The two appear to be about 2 to 5 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Information is also included on the back of the photograph ordering a colorized version of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the girls and their families: Hallie Delphia or Delphina GATES was b. 26 Sept 1896 in Ottumwa, IA to parents William Alford GATES (1855 or 1856-1911) and Sarah Jane “Jennie” JOHNSON (1858 or 1859-1919) who were married 1 Apr 1879 in Fairfield, IA. Hallie was one of 9 children born to this couple including Olive “Ollie” May or Mae; Sarah Edith; Charles William; Bert Leroy “Roy”; Clyde Raymond “Ray”; Laura; Mary Elise; Mollie A.; and Hallie Delphia or Delphina GATES, all born between 1880 and 1896. Hallie died 21 Nov 1913 in Ottumwa, IA and is buried in the Shaul Cemetery in that town. At the time of her death, she was working as a seamstress and was survived by her mother, brothers Ray and Charles GATES both of Minnesota; Clyde GATES of Ottumwa, IA; and her sister Mrs. Ollie RHOADES of Nebraska. Mary Elise GATES was b. 13 Feb 1894 in Ottumwa, IA to the same parents. Mary Elise died 6 May 1913 in Ottumwa, IA and is buried in the Shaul Cemetery in that town. Like her sister Hallie, she was also a seamstress and died due to complications of an appendicitis and tuberculosis. The photograph is dated 1880 with Minnie appearing to be in her teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Minnie and her family: Minnie Helen THOMPSON was b. 12 Aug 1863 in Fairfield, IA to parents Charles Madison THOMPSON (1833-1897) and Sarah Jane MCGUIRE (1833-1880) who were married 19 Mar 1854 in Jefferson County, IA. Minnie was one of 11 children born to this couple including James Benton; Silas Madison; Ellen; Erastus Emery; Minnie Helen; Avery R.; Omar or Omer; Cora; Walter; Simon; and Clark J. THOMPSON, all born between 1855 and 1874. Minnie married James Warren MCGUIRE (1860-1949) on 3 Apr 1886 in Pratt, KS or Buchanan County, MO. The couple had 5 children including George Warren; Ethel Clara; Iva Bessie; Mabel Ellen; and Carl Madison MCGUIRE, all born between 1887 and 1894. Minnie died 9 Aug 1919 in Pratt, KS and is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, KS.
