LYONS Family Photograph 2
I have in my possession an old photograph of Mr. H. B. B. LYONS of Yale, IA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mr. LYONS in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. I believe that this is a photograph of Henry Benjamin Butler LYONS and based on limited research was able to gather the following information regarding Henry and his family: Henry Benjamin Butler LYONS was b. 25 Nov 1864 in Ossian, IA to parents James LYONS (1829-1899) and Anne “Annie” MAHAFFY or MAHAFFEY or MAHAFFE (1826-1895) who were married 31 May 1862 in Fayette Co., IA. Henry was one of four children born to this couple including Thomas Jefferson N.; Henry Benjamin Butler; Baby Boy; and John Grant Mahaffe or Mahaffey LYONS, all born between 1863 and 1869. Henry married Anna M. WIEDMAN (1866-1911) on 21 Aug 1898 in Panora, IA and they had two children including Charles Victor LYONS (1901-1984) and Grace Gertrude LYONS (b. 1903). Henry died 21 Oct 1951 in Ossian, IA and is buried in the Brethren Cemetery in Panora, IA. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of a family member. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

HOSIER - SHANKS - LENON Family Photographs
I've recovered two photographs belonging to the HOSIER Family or Oregon. The first is a photograph of William HOSIER of Mount Angel, Marion County, OR which was taken at the Sperry Studio in Salem, OR. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with William likely in his teens at the time. Stamped on the back of the photograph is the name "Adolphus F. ENGBLAD" and order instructions for a 16x20 bust portrait to be provided by the Fine Art Portrait Academy of Oakland, Calif". The second photograph is one of Elizabeth SHANKS HOSIER that was taken at the Cheney & Grimm Studio sometime in the 1890's. Elizabeth appears to be in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. Someone has written "Mt. Angel ?" and the name "Janie" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: William “Willie” Albert HOSIER was b. 7 Oct 1873 in Waldo Hills or Sublimity, OR to parents Joseph Marion HOSIER (1840-1882) and Elizabeth A. SHANKS (1841-1936). William was one of 7 children born to this couple including Louisa Addarena “Addie”; Etta “Ettie” Anna; Viola Lucinda; Rebecca Jane “Janie” or “Jennie”; William Albert; Emma May; and Jane HOSIER, all born between 1865 and 1882. William died 13 May 1962 in San Diego or Escondido, CA and he is buried in the Simmons Cemetery in Mount Angel, OR. Elizabeth A. SHANKS was born 27 Aug 1841 in Deer Creek, IN, to parents Abner H. SHANKS (1810-1902) and Anna LENON (1816-1852) who were married 11 Nov 1833 in Ohio. Elizabeth was one of 10 children born to this couple including, John Lenon; Daniel; Joseph Bridger; Elizabeth A.; Newton Jasper; Henry W. Newport; Louisa Mary; Martha; Lavicy Jane; and James Stuart SHANKS, all born between 1835 and 1850. After her Mother passed away her Father remarried and 6 additional children were born including, Martha Ellen; Mary Magdalene; Levi W.; Benjamin Franklin; William Marion Jackson; and Lucetta Anna SHANKS, all born between 1853 and 1869. Elizabeth married Joseph Marion HOSIER (1840-1882) on 6 Apr 1864 in Panora, IA and they had 7 children identified above. Elizabeth died 1 Feb 1936 in Mount Angel, OR and is buried in the Simmons Cemetery there. I am hoping to return the photographs to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or if you know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

Woof/Wood in Stuart, Guthrie from 1902 -1951
Thomas Woof was born in the UK in 1860 and emigrated to Iowa in 1902 to Pierson, Iowa with his wife, Isabella Janetta Woof and family, William, Harold and his niece Margaret Agnes Haygarth, who he later seemed to adopt as she is referred to as daughter in a couple of USA census. Thomas and Isabella had two children after arriving in the USA, Richard Martin (1903) & Donald Matthew (1908). The family changed their surname, believed to be between 1920-1926 to WOOD, and family reasons for this appeared to be the hard times after WW1 with what was considered to be a German sounding name in Woof. Thomas and his sons worked in a grain silo, newly built by Thomas, for many years. In 2013 I received local articles and pictures on the family from Paula Sain with a picture of the family grave in Oak Grove Cemetery. His niece, Margaret married Horace McGirr in 1926 after moving to Seattle where she later lived; son Richard, who married Gladys Hanson in 1928 was a well known teacher and is listed in Who's Who of Iowa and son Donald married Della Bunting, date unknown. All are now deceased so our connection has been lost, but it would be interesting to know if any children, grand-children are known and still resident in Iowa. Any information would be appreciated if it is at all possible.

REYNOLDS and other surnames in Guthrie County
Hello from Dayton, Ohio! Thank you for adding me to the group! My mother was born in Guthrie Center and moved to Ohio during WWII to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where she met my dad. I spent many summers in Guthrie Center where my grandfather's farm backed up to the fairgrounds! Great memories! These are the names I have researched in Guthrie County. Most were in Indiana previous to Iowa, and some of these surnames overlap both states. Feel free contact me if you want to share information. REYNOLDS - SAUVAGO - BELL - SMOUSE - HOOPINGARNER - KELLEY - SHELLENBARGER - THOMAS You can look at more information on my website at http://www.carolynjburns.com.
