RUFUS won't write to USB drive

Using the latest rufus: rufus-4.3.exe .? The fresh 128 Gb drive is recognized as is the img.xz file.? Clicked the check mark and the ready rectangle turns green.? The process starts by writing new partitions and then stops.? The drive is no longer a lettered drive (D:) in windows - its is now drive 1.? Hitting START again gives the same result.

I have done this with two fresh USB drives and they are both bricked.??

HELP!

(BTW - I am using HamPI with a Pi4 to run JS8call on a QDX.? VERY stable.? Hamclock is also great, both as a cool display as for setting the system clock.? Really hoping to get the little windows machine to behave as well.)

I had the exact same problem and it was suggested by the developer to use . After downloading and installing, that worked exactly like it should have.

Dito.? ?I too had problems with rufus.
Moving to Etcher worked for me too.

Etcher is for Linux as Rufus is for Windows. Ask me how Iknow this ....I? used to have a full head of hair. Dark brown.? Now it's white and thin. What a year!

Very strange because I am looking at my Windows 10 desktop and see a balinaEtcher icon.

You might have been trying to use an old version that didn't support Windows.

I have been using balenaEtcher on both Win7 and Linux and it is my preferred option for creating USB ISO images. I did have problems with a few USB drives, some brand new, and fixed them by doing a full format on the drives, not a quick format. I don't know what was wrong, but the Windows format fixed the problem.
