Alister Chapman offers a whole UK code plug on his website for the MD380, the page also provides instructions for getting it onto the radio. Haven’t tried it myself, just remembered hearing about it. Hope this provides some help to you.

Re: TYT DMR MD Setup

Code plug is a name given by motorola to the data you put in a radio.
They are personal and to begin to imagine what you want it to do is impossable.
It takes some not inconsiderable time to learn how.
I do not hand out I know it all plugs, but if you tell me what you expect it to do and your dmr id I will give it a go.

encouraging seniors to join ham radio

encouraging seniors to join ham radio

in the uk we have
11 million seniors
4 million live alone
1 million say they often feel lonely
20% say they see family neighbors
and friends less than weekly

we should aim our efforts at getting these people to join in ham radio

seniors know how to make and hold a conversation

amateur radio would help them to socialize

today most radio amateurs are seniors themselves

the average age of arrl members is 65+

Sorry but this is one of the reasons why we are getting less relevant due to thinking like this.

Without paying something, we cannot hold OFCOM to account for the poor job that they do. They cannot even get the ADSL providers to notch out the amateur bands which would be quite easy to do.AIUI, the ability is already in the specification and can be easily done. The minimum cost for a licence should be ?25 IMHO. That's 7p a day! That's so cheap after working out the daily cost I am sorely tempted to increase my minimum! Nobody is forcing anybody to get a vanity callsign, so if somebody does not want one they just have to not bother. That is the case with car number plates and it brings in loads of money.
Paying a licence fee or not does not impact on whether Ofcom will do anything about 'interference' - note that Ofcom does not see that being able to make weak signal contacts as interference and say that there are other bands that we can use. Do we really want to push the regulator to make a decision about imposing notching on all VDSL users in the UK? If so I can see the decision making process now, lets do cost benefit analysis of Government and consumers wanting faster broadband or a few amateurs wanting to chat to someone on the other side of the world. I know who would win that debate. We will never win the battle on this.

Also ?25 for a licence is based on what? Most licences that Ofcom issues have a minimum fee of ?75 as they say this is to recover their costs.?

Re: New UK Entry Level Licence proposed #Licensing

You are right of course. I do stand by the sentiment of my comment though, that for any changes to the entry route to this hobby those making the changes put themselves in the shoes of someone new.?

Any changes to the foundation licence should be to help facilitate learning and help develop that same principle of self training you refer to. Fostering links with the maker community could be one possible route for this.?

With people suggesting we should pay a licence fee and the current
exams aren’t a patch on the old ones; how about instead when the 5
yearly renewal comes round you need to resit the current exam for
your licence. Ensures everyone is fully up to date with the current
state of the hobby and what is expected of new entrants to the
hobby and further funds the RSGB.?
This has been suggested elsewhere (and on several occasions).

However, the amateur licence is not like a professional qualification, where in order to interact effectively and commercially with others, you have little option but to keep up-to-date with the latest technology.

Instead, amateur radio is 'self-training', where we set our own level of knowledge and attainment. As a result, some are generally content to plough along with the old tried and tested techniques (possibly adding occasional innovations), while others like keep up with the latest technology - and quite a few are actually even ahead of it.

Well, I for one would fail miserably!!

I suspect that I'm not the only one and in consequence the UK amateur radio would decline very sharply...

Exams at my age? I have difficulty remembering what I had for breakfast.

PS - as usual it was porridge but it took me a minute to remember!!!

Les, just because some people may be poor does not mean that they should be able to afford everything. Where do you draw the line? Motoring, holidays in the sun etc?
