auto-immun disease
4
Hello all... I recently spent 2 MONTHS in the hospital...trying to find out the reason why I nearly died. It seems that, like only 1000 people in the entire world, I do NOT have cancer that might cause it, but have a cerebral auto-immune disorder that they are just now trying to get rid of. It's not clear how long I've suffered from it, but it would explain alot of things...including why I've been less and less able to do translations etc for this group. They say it will certainly take 6 months put perhaps two YEARS before I am "normal". At least now I am able to write coherent sentences, which wasn't true for the last few months! Know that I have not forgotten this group, nor my desire to finish the translation of Hahneman's book. Some day!!! Lois Hoffer

Aphorism 146
5
I have 3 different translation of 6th ed and all 3 differ in 146 Boericke says 'judicious employment' oreilly say 'the most expedient employment' kunzli says 'most effective employment' all three have a different meaning in English. What did the German word say in your opinion? Lois has used 'judicious employment' but to me it seems different. Hahnemann used the term 'zweckm??igst'. The 'st at the end of the word is the highest comparative like 'most'. We have it in English language as well: 'High' -> 'highest'. Zweckm??ig. I would have said, acc. to my limited understanding of the language: 'most useful'. Now I have checked a dictionary. It says most expedient.

Hello! and moving files here
11
OK everyone, I've figured out how to upload files and organize them, but groups.io has the same defect that yahoo groups acquired a number of years ago: they don't let you open files in another window, but only allow you to DOWNload them when you click. I guess that doesn't bother anyone here, because you're used to it already. I've uploaded, as a test-case, all the files for Aph 273 into a folder of that name, here on the group. There's the usual "ila-273..." files of the interlinear for main text and footnote, there is the german-english file (ge-a273...), and there are two files, called "Aph273-analysis" and "Aph273fn-analysis" with a trimmed down version of the email of my analysis. I have to say, that the analyses don't sound very clear or enlightening to me, but I guess they do if you've just translated and studied that aphorism! It also seems to start and stop kindof out of nowhere, because I removed the chatty intro and exit. What do YOU think of them as they are? I spent some time making the text look nicer, by putting the German words in red: since it's html, I can do that, but I don't know how it'll format on YOUR computers. SINCE you have to download them to SEE these, there's no point in having links to groups.io, so I changed the links to merely call each other simply, as if they were indeed all together next to each other in a file folder called "Aph273". So, if you create a file-folder on your computer with "Organon" and then download the complete file-folders from groups.io that I'll be creating, you can then just go into each aphorism's folder, and click on the ge- file, the German English. I've changed it so that not only does the right hand side German text link to the German interlinear, but now the English side texts link to my (in English!) analysis. Tell me what you think. It will take quite a while to work through all the analysis files, making them HTML, colorizing the German and fixing the formatting. Maybe I'll ship up all the ge's and ila's first, so you have a complete set of those before the other group goes down. I'll keep writing on HMN on yahoo until the end...but I suppose I should post a copy of this here, in case some of you LEFT the old group?! I don't want to annoy you with multiple copies of posts... Anyone got any opinions or ideas, let me know. Cheers. Lois

Aphorism 64
3
I had noted this Engish translation for the Aphorism 64 : During the primary action of the artificial morbific agents (medicines) on our healthy body, as seen in the following examples, our vital force seems to conduct itself merely in a passive (receptive) manners, and appears, so to say, compelled to permit the impressions of the artificial power acting from without to take place in it and thereby after its state of health; it then, however, appears to rouse itself again, as it were, and to develop (A) the exact opposite condition of health (counteraction, secondary action) to this effect (primary action) produced upon it, if there be such an opposite, and that in as great a degree as was the effect (primary action) of the artificial morbific agent on it, and proportionate to its own energy; - or (B) if there be not in nature a state exactly the opposite of the primary action, it appears to endeavor to indifferentiate itself, that is, to make its superior power available in the extinction of the change wrought in it from without (by the medicine), in the place of which it substitutes its normal state (secondary action, curative action). The German original being : Bei der Erstwirkung der k¨¹nstlichen Krankheits-Potenzen (Arzneien) auf unsern gesunden K?rper, scheint sich (wie man aus folgenden Beispielen ersieht) diese unsere Lebenskraft blo? empf?nglich (receptiv, gleichsam leidend) zu verhalten und so, wie gezwungen, die Eindr¨¹cke der von au?en einwirkenden, k¨¹nstlichen Potenz in sich geschehen und dadurch ihr Befinden um?ndern zu lassen, dann aber sich gleichsam wieder zu ermannen, und dieser in sich aufgenommenen Einwirkung (Erstwirkung) A) den gerade entgegengesetzten Befindens-Zustand (Gegenwirkung, Nachwirkung) wo es einen solchen giebt, in gleichem Grade hervorzubringen als die Einwirkung (Erstwirkung) der k¨¹nstlich krank machenden, oder arzneilichen Potenz auf sie gewesen war und zwar nach dem Ma?e ihrer eignen Energie - oder, B) wo es einen der Erstwirkung gerade entgegengesetzten Zustand in der Natur nicht giebt, scheint sie sich zu bestreben, ihr Uebergewicht geltend zu machen durch Ausl?schen der von au?en (durch die Arznei) in ihr bewirkten Ver?nderung, an deren Stelle sie ihre Norm wieder einsetzt (Nachwirkung, Heilwirkung). I wonder if the after shown in bold character in the english translation should not be replaced by alter or change ? In fact a simple typing error f for l could explain this situation. Am I right Lois ?

Apparently the texts for this aphorism 241 are missing in the repertory. Aphorisms 240 & 242 are well present.

Arnoldo Rivera's review of Organon translations
2
For those who may not have seen this article. Homeopathy Arnoldo Rivera wrote an article summarizing the translation mistakes that he has found in the translations by Boericke, Kuenzli, and Decker. https://hpathy.com/homeopathy-papers/commentaries-on-some-mistakes-in-the-german-english-translations-of-three-organons/?fbclid=IwAR3JvjlRh87DO8xEMHrC4XeadXTSDISNrWnNmfso_TKJK9e7FLXVnX_1tQk

Slowly uploading files...please check them!
Hello all! Thanks to having to recover from two visits to the dentist, this has been delayed, but now I can tell you that a) I have a copy on my computer of all interlinears, and all analyses that exist. (I have discovered that I completely forgot to write the analyses of Aph 148 for example, and a number of footnotes from Aph 50 towards smaller numbers. Once I got to Aph 1-20, there wasn't REALLY any analysis, just an open discussion among a number of people...I'll have to do those from scratch eventually!... b) I am currently working, from the latest one (Aph 274, whose footnote isn't analyzed yet), back towards the smaller numbers, on completing/correcting each Aphorism. As I mentioned before, on the page that has the German and English side by side, the interlinear translations are linked to the German parts, and the analyses of the same bits are linked to the English words. I will continue to work on this, which is tiring, and requires attention, but not too much intelligence, through Xmas, and see how far I get. I am hoping that I'll feel better in the New Year and up for creating new analyses and working on those missing ones!

Please look at these and give me your feedback?
4
Hello all, I've now put onto the group the files, in their "final" form, for Aphs 273 and 272. That means you will find a directory with the Aph27* name, in which you will find: a) a file starting with GEss, standing for German and English side-by-side, which is now THE starting-off point for each aphorism, because the interlinear translations are linked to the German texts and the analyses, reformatted, are linked to the English text. Plus, in the same folder: b) the interlinear translations for each bit of text, starting with "ilt-Aph27*..." c) the analyses for each bit of text, starting with Aph27*-analysis.." Please look at these, download them, see if they work right, are readable in the current format, etc. I would like any and all feedback, before I get too much farther into it and then have to redo them all!! Obviously, so much reformatting has to be done, that this will take a while, but I'll ship each aphorism up as i complete it, so you will be able to keep track of the progress. Thank you in advance for your help, Lois Hoffer
