Hahn
I am researching Johann Frederich Hahn b. 1725, who immigrated from Wiesenbach, Aichach-Friedberg, Bayern, Germany, aboard the ship Sally in 1752. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find out who his parents were. I would appreciate any help that may be available. Johann Frederich Hahn arrived aboard the ship "Sally" in 1752 with his wife Eva and son Johann. They left Rotterdam May 30, 1752 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia Sept. 6, 1752. They were not allowed to disembark until Sept. 26, 1752 due to sickness and lack of housing for passengers. Encountered long, stormy trip. Left with 258 passengers. Arrived with 218 passengers. Many people died during the voyage (15.5 %) or in the first weeks after arrival and several of the children were listed as orphans shortly after arrival. Johann Frederich Hahn left Lunenburg for Fort Louisberg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The following list is one that I received from Fort Louisberg, N.S. The named persons were considered "Foreign Protestant Deserters" A list of German & Swiss embarked 21st August 1758 on board the Sloop for Lunenburg and arriving there Sept. 9, 1758 and where mustered 17th of September then remaining on the list 55 persons which rec'd provisions....the list of 59 persons embarking follows: Schoman, Jacob + wife Anna Marie Heitz, Catharina & Lorentz Meyhoffer, Benedicts + wife Magdalena + daughters Magdalena, Johanna, Francisca, Susanna together with Francisca Schneider (Magdalena Meyhoffer's sister) Durand, Dominick _ A. Maria Rudolff, Stephen + Ursula + daughters, Francisca, Elizabeth, Magdalena Betner, Fr. Anthony + Magdalena + son Jacob + daughter Christina Keyler, Michael + wife Rosina + daughter Judith Wendell, Johannes + wife Maria Schauder, Hans Georg Schaffet, Michael + wife Catharina = daughters Mariana + Barbara Kolb, Jacob + Maria + son Jacob 11 Konig, Ludwig _ Ludwig _ Magdalena _ daughters Anna Fer _ Maria Hahn, Friedrich + wife Eva _ son Johannes Simon, Johannes Forster, Jacob +Anna + daughter Magdalena, + son Lorentz, + daughter Anna + son Jacob Foltz, Johannes + wife Elizabeth + sons Lorentz + Antony Haas, Andreas + Sophia + Hartman, + Margeretha + Magdalena Of these, Johannes Simon was discharged and three girls: Betner, Christina, Konig, Maria, Schaffet, Barbera were registered as dead on arrival in Lunenburg. Terry Punch states that perhaps a third of this group had been Catholic before going to Louisbourg, and possible another third - including the Foltz and Kolb families - converted to Catholicism. Meyhoffer, Kolb, Betner (Bechler) and Schauder (Schneider) had reached N.S. in 1750 aboard the Ann 1751 Forster and probable Simon on the Murdoch Heitz, Haas and Schoman (Schuman) on the Gale Rudolff, Keyler and Wendell (Wisel) on the Pearl in 1752. Foltz and probable Durand on the Speedwell Hahn on the Sally But evidence to establish this is insufficient. There is one branch of the Hahn Family who arrived in Halifax with the Foreign Protestants in the early 1750's which left Halifax and went to Fort Louisburg. They were called Deserters but were not members of the Military but had Loyal ties to the French. Since only Protestants were supposed to be allowed to leave Germany it is likely but never proved that some of these families could have been Catholic and that is why they had ties to the French in Louisburg. Frederick Hahn, Eva Hahn and Johannes were one of these families. They lived outside of the fort in a place called Germantown. There are no records of any of these families in the Church Files at all including all BMD'S. When Louisburg fell to the English in 1758 these families were sent from Louisburg to Lunenburg . They left Louisburg on 21 August 1758 and arrived in Lunenburg on Sept. 9 1758. According to British Colonial notes at PANS there were supposed to be 20 families left Louisburg but in Bell's Notes at PANS he could only find 18 Families.
