Wanted : A205 audio board, please
8
Good morning, all. Does anyone have a working A205 audio board for my RP25 Sovereign II which they would be willing to sell me, please? I’ve spent a lot of time replacing electrolytics and resoldering the input plug on mine to try to stop persistent motorboating, to no avail. I’m afraid I’ve lost patience and the board is getting chewed up in places. On receipt of a replacement board, I could donate my faulty one for spares. Regards, Alan.

PP9 replica boxes
3
Good afternoon all, I know this may have been covered sometime ago, however, now that PP9’s are no longer available is there a source of PP9 replica boxes. My Herald RP37A & Hunter RP38A require two each plus the AA case that holds 6 AA’s each. Ready to use as my soldering skills are very poor. Regards, Julian

Hacker Centurion
19
And for our next contestant lined up for the New Year ... This Hacker Centurion features an FM radio tuner, a fabulous Garrard SP25 MkIV record deck and two external loudspeakers. The radio and turntable both work although the mechanism underneath will need cleaned, degreased and lubricated along with the usual checks on the idler wheel, motor, bearing, tonearm, cartridge and stylus. The foam surrounds on both speakers have perished and will need replaced - a messy and lengthy procedure but I’ve done this before. One channel on the amplifier is dodgy and will need investigation. I think I'll tackle the speaker foam surrounds first - any recommendations?

Hacker Mayflower II (RV20) extremely low audio
3
I've searched the internet for help and finally landed here. Couldn't find much that seemed applicable here either, so here's a post. I recently acquired this radio, and made sure to replace the original electrolytics. Upon first powerup (using dim bulb and variac), I noticed the audio was extremely low. The only way to understand a broadcast would be to put one's ear on the speaker. I've checked all tubes, all resistors, all capacitors. There was one capacitor that was open so I replaced it. No change. Tried a different speaker, no change. Twisted all knobs, flipped all switches, cleaned them, no change. Not sure what to do next. Replace both ECL86 tubes? Replace the audio output transformer? I've checked all voltages, and nothing was far off. Any ideas? Thanks

F/F and Rev works fine but no movement on Play ? I've noticed that Play/Rec button stays down though? Anyone had similar probs? Graham

RP 25 and RP25b
Hello: Pulled out my three Hacker radios I picked up at Camden market a few years ago. An RP25 and RP25b, of course both are Sovereign IIs. The third one is a Herald. I was going to use the Herald AM board to swap and repair the RP25 but thought otherwise. so here is the problem. The Herald is fully functional but needs the case spruced up, probably some capacitors and an alignment. The RP25b is also fully functional and also needs some case work. ___________________________________ the RP25 however is extremely deaf on the LW and AM bands. At max volume on my lab speaker I can identify the possibility of reception. Tapping in with my signal tracer I get readability on the stations when tapping into L6 as indicated in the photos. The oscillator is functional as indicated by the signal tracer amplification of an AM station, however I did check with my oscilloscope before I got the signal tracer out as seen here: https://youtube.com/shorts/00UAvOHL238?si=0j9A8S1iQbQgZmEI Question is, is it the IF coil L6 as the signal does not exist on the circuit after the IF coil? This PCB is the Type 503 A Looking in the literature here and on the web, it seems to be a problem with a deaf AM / LW circuit. Now I have checked the ground and will trouble shoot using the manual (thanks for the manual everyone) however I do not have a 503A circuit printout. any simple fixes as i do NOT want to scavenge the Herald board from a working Herald. We still have a plethora of AM stations in Canada which makes the Herald functional as a receiver. geoff in vancouver, Canada

Hacker GAR 500 mains hum
3
Have mains hum unaffected by volume for about 15 mins after switching on. Replaced C1 of P407 because that looked a bit soft on the base but problem persists. Could the other caps C2/3/4 be causing this or something later in the circuit. The A208 power amps have been repaired and set up correctly and work very well but this annoying thing is just letting things down ? Thanks Jon

Merry Christmas and a happy 21st...
5
I nearly let it go by, but opening my annual bottle of port has put me in the mood, as its closing minutes tick away, to note that Christmas Eve this year has also been the 21st birthday of our happy band of Hacker enthusiasts. My thanks to Ian and Mark for joining me in what must be one of the cushiest moderation jobs the internet has to offer, thanks to an exemplary complement of members here: and thanks to all those members for being here at all, and continuing the exchanges without which the group wouldn't be what it is. A merry Christmas and a rewarding New Year to all. Paul

London Repairman - Hacker SP25 MK3 Hifi Unit
2
Hi all, I'm hunting for a London based repairman to help with the following: - Auto function on tone-arm not working - Platter spinning too slowly - Loud popping sound when switching on/off. Likely a minor circuitry issue. I'm hoping to find someone to hopefully do this economically. Thank you!

RP18

Hi Group, Can anyone confirm that the earliest Sovereign RP18 had an all Black plastic Handel and a White Vent in the Back door? I’m in the process of restoration and these two bits are missing, if you have these two items would be willing to part with them. Thanks Graham

Loud 'Pop' Sounds When Switching TT on/off
8
Hi Everyone, I'm restoring a beautiful Garrard sp25 mk3. Everytime I switch it on or off I get a huge pop through the speakers and a lot of crackling for a few seconds. My understanding is that this has to do with the suppressor/resistor capacitor failing open. Nonetheless, I haven't the slightest clue if this is exactly the issue, nor how to go about fixing this. If anyone can please help, that would be amazing!

How to Access Underside Mechanisms and Cabling
3
Hi all, I'm attempting to restore a Garrard sp25 mk3. I've removed the turntable platter and everything is more or less fine there. I can't seem to be able to access the underside to have a look at any additional mechanisms. I think some parts there need adjusting to get the auto function to work. I can't really understand the description in the instruction manual, and any Youtube videos already have the cabinet open or they skip over how they open it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hacker A213 amplifier boards
7
Hello all, I am not one to generally ask for help but I have been sent in a couple of audio boards removed from a Hacker MC 600 music centre. Have to admit I am struggling a bit with them. The amp code is A213 and I can't find any useful data on them. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for this amplifier pcb or indeed the whole unit? I am not normally defeated by audio amplifiers and currently at the stage of pulling my hair out and swearing at my oscilloscope. Fingers crossed..... Richard

RP25
Good morning, I would be very interested in restoring that Sovereign 2. I am in Northern Ireland though I hope to be over in England during the next month and could pick it up. I would be willing to make an agreeable donation to a charity of your choice, perhaps MacMillan or Action Cancer. I realise that this delay in me contacting you may mean the radio has already gone or you may be unwilling to wait for me to get over to collect it but I thought I would try anyway. I hope that this lovely radio may live to be enjoyed by someone in the future. With best wishes, John

Hi there, I'm trying to join this Forum, but it's getting too " Technical " & keeps asking me for new passwords...help ! I don't know how to add a photo to my profile either, a real Stegosaur here ! But I DO love Hacker radios & am keen on getting all of my collection functional, even if it means paying for expert radio attention. ( I'm good with Audio though and have fixed all of my A205 boards and am currently upgrading my four Mayflower 2's with modern components ) Best regards, George White Postcode : BN25 2TJ South Coast halfway between Brighton & Eastbourne.
