HP 1980B Scope

Bought a 1980B scope on E-bay. Everything works except for the graticule illumination. Is this integral to the CRT like the flood gun approach used on some of HP's earlier scopes? Or is there a bulb hidden very cleverly somewhere?

HP 436A
I have a question regarding the subject power meter. According to all of the information I have, including catalogs and the manual, the instrument is supposed to be able to have a 50 dB dynamic range. Regardless of what sensor I use, or which of my 436As I use, I can only get a 30 dB dynamic range. What am I doing wrong? – Thanks - Mike Mike B. Bezel: round available, square wanted
Hi There, I have a spare HP cro bezel, the older aluminium round type with 4 screw holes. Good condition, a bit dusty, minor tarnish, inside paint good. I'm looking for a plastic square type, as used on the HP141 and HP180 cro. Regards Ray

Hi Mike: I asked a friend who's probably one of the world's experts on power measurements and he thinks you 436 is defective. His reply is: "Probably the A2 card (AC gain board, contains true range decoder) of the 436... might be the controller card A5 ... sends the range data to the A2." RF Voltmeter HP 3406A
3
Gentlemen, I have a HP 3406A Broadband Sampling Voltmeter I am repairing. According to the test procedure in the manual , the probe assembly is faulty and should be replaced as it is not field repairable. I doubt if these are available from HP and if they were one could not afford the price they would ask. Does anyone have any experience with fixing these probes? Failing this is there anyplace a replacement can be found. Thanks David David Hopkins (VK4ZF) Queensland AUSTRALIA davhop@... S 27, 22.294 E153, 11.008

HP8601A Generator/Sweeper
5
HP8601A Generator/Sweeper Hi Group, I'm about to get a HP8601A RF Generator / Sweeper which I _think_ is basically working. However, I would like to know if anyone has good or bad experience with this device. (Is it prone to failure, does it perform well, does it need frequent re-calibration, ...) Also I would like to ask if anyone has operator and/or service manual for this unit. A quick response, if possible, would be very much appreciated! Many thanks in advance Andi

HP 8566B ROMs available
3
I've submitted the EPROM firmware from my HP8566B to Bruce Lane's archive: ftp://ftp.bluefeathertech.com/pub/electronics/testgear/HP/firmware/8566B/ Filename is hp8566b_9_29_86.zip . These image files are from my own 8566B with serial prefix 27xx; I don't know if they will work in earlier or later instruments. See guidelines for access to Bruce's archive below. -- john KE5FX -----Original Message----- From: Bruce Lane [mailto:kyrrin@...] Sent: Saturday, September 18, 2004 12:56 PM To: jmiles@... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I run a good-sized FTP archive that currently contains, among other things, EPROM (firmware) images for Tektronix test gear that they no longer make or support. This is done to provide a repository of image files that one can use to make a new EPROM if one should fail (yes, they do fail on occasion). By sending me an archive with 8566B EPROM images in it, John Miles has made it clear that doing the same for HP stuff would probably be a good idea. So be it! I welcome contributions for the archive subject to the following conditions. (1) Any firmware or software sent should be for equipment that HP/Agilent no longer manufactures or supports. (2) If what you're sending is related to current equipment, it must be publicly available for download from HP/Agilent as well. In other words, HP/Agilent needs to have given permission, in some way, for its release. (3) Submissions should be compressed with ZIP or a similar scheme. Files with .exe extensions will be rejected by my firewall, so choose carefully. ;-) Send submissions to kyrrin (at) bluefeathertech dot com. (4) My spam filters have been known to be overzealous. If you try to send me something, and it bounces, try sending me a note (WITHOUT the file attachment) to kc7gr at qsl dot net (my backup address). Include the bounce notice, and I will see what I can do about punching a hole in the filters so you'll be able to get through. For downloading, the host is ftp.bluefeathertech.com. Log on as 'anonymous' (minus the quotes), and send your E-mail addy as your password. The path is /pub/electronics/testgear, and you will see subdirectories below that. Please keep in mind the following limitations. (1) Download speed for anonymous logins is capped at 128K, and there's a limit of five simultaneous logins permitted. This is done to make the most of a limited bandwidth pipe (my DSL line). If you're not able to get in at any one time, please try again later. (2) Certain ISPs and IP ranges may be blocked from accessing the archive at all, due to ongoing spam and virus transmissions. If you find you cannot access the archive, drop me a note with details of what you're looking for. If I have it, I'll send it along. Thanks much. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Bruce Lane, Owner & Head Hardware Heavy, Blue Feather Technologies -- http://www.bluefeathertech.com kyrrin (at) bluefeathertech do/t c=o=m "If Salvador Dali had owned a computer, would it have been equipped with surreal ports?"

HP 10511A Spectrum Generator

Helo, is there any information about this, i think, a comb generator, available in this group? I expect it's a SRD-Based device, but i didn't knew any working conditions for it, i.e. (max) input power, input frequency range, output frequency range ( ... rise time of the combs) and so on. Could you please have a look in your Catalogues (i expext the end of the sixties) for some data for this unit? Best regards, Jorgen dj0ud

FW: Fraud
Forwarded from a Hong Kong acquaintance who just got burned big-time by a lumber salesman in Quebec. I don't have any more details about the alleged fraud, or how the payment was made, but it's a big enough deal to justify posting a heads-up. -- john KE5FX -----Original Message----- From: (name redacted) Sent: Monday, September 20, 2004 2:54 AM To: 'John Miles' Subject: Fraud Hi John Just thought you might get a laugh from hearing that I recently paid USD 6200 to a guy in Quebec Canada for 3 planks of wood which were supposed to be an Agilent E4432B Signal generator. It was eBay “bait” I should have walked away from. He actually shipped the goods before payment, thinking that would make me feel more comfortable. The shipping time would allow him to collect his money and disappear. Well it worked, he got the money and I got three expensive planks of wood! Pass this around to your friends. If anyone comes across a guy named Konstantinos Tabiris, watch out. His email for what its worth is hns0909@.... Now I have to find a more “legitimate” seller and in the mean time, hope to recover my money somehow….. Cheers (name redacted)

Want to trade - programmable attenuators in exchange for manual step
I have a small assortment of "programmable" RF/microwave attenuators here. What I have are house-numbered units. They are 33321G/8495G equivalents or 33320G/8494G equivalents. Basic specs are these: 33321/8495: 0-70dB in 10dB steps 5 volts required to drive Rated to 4GHz SMA input and output connectors 14-pin DIP plug on cable 33320/8494: 0-11dB in 1dB steps 5 volts required to drive Rated to 4GHz SMA in/out 14-pin DIP plug on cable You drive them by applying +5V steady on one pin, then grounding the correct selection of other pins to select the attenuation you desire. An absolute necessity if you're building up PC-controlled test systems. Full specs, operating and service manual downloadable from the Agilent website by entering the following in the search engine: 08495-90025.pdf I have two or three of each, and am basically looking to trade for the manual equivalent. I have a couple of signal generators with fixed 0dBm output and need to add manual step attens to them to allow for receiver testing. It would be great to get two or three of each. The models I'm seeking are 8494A/B/H, 8495A/B/H and/or 8496A/B/H. TIA, 73, Dave W8NF __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start.
