8565A Spectrum Analyzer Anomaly 2
Hello Group, I have a HP8565A that I resurrected from three bad units some yesrs back and I have noticed an anomaly that I want to pose for the group. I checked the calibration of the unit about a year ago and put it into storage until this week. It seems that the frequency offset of the zero beat moves and has to be reset. I set it last fall when I found it to be off (by 120Mhz) (checked at 1MHz dispersion) from the last time I calibrated the unit over three years ago. It seems that it moved again by the same amount in MHz and I believe that it moved in the same direction (The YIG moved high by 120MHZ thus moving the zero Mhz beat off the left side of the screen). All of the other calibration is dead on. I used the 100MHz built in test signal for checking and also checked the signal externally to insure that it is correct. Phase lock also works perfectly. Anyone have any similar experiences or suggestions. I'm going to reset the adjustment and take closer notes to see if it drifts back in the Fall. Sam W3OHM

Wanted: Rear feet for HP 141T
I have an HP141T mainframe with but two of the rear feet. That's disappointing, as I do like to place the unit at my feet, face upward. If anybody has a parts unit (probably the same feet were on the entire 140/141 A/T series) and is willing to sacrifice a couple of feet, please contact me. Kind regards, Dave Haupt W8NF Santa Rosa, CA __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - 100MB free storage! http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail

FREE - six and a half foot rack 2
Yep, you read that right, free. Standard OLD 19" rack. OLD rack with amateur upgrades, this OLD rack is one of the husky sort that OLD timers used to build big OLD amplifiers into. Like most OLD equipment, it's painted a black wrinkle. It's pre-WWII vintage (did I mention it's OLD?). Comes with the following guarantee: Your spouse will hate it. Actually, considering it's over 60 years old, it's in amazingly good condition. I'm to the north of the San Francisco Bay area. Generally, I'd like to say that this is for pickup only, but to be honest, I want it outa here, so I'm even willing to haul it somewhere not too darned far away. Oh, yeah, I can be talked into throwing in a big OLD plate transformer - 3/4 kVA CCS type. Just so you know this OLD rack really is ugly, I posted the story of my acquisition of it, and some truly ugly, er, representative photos here: www.sonic.net/~dhaupt/rack/rack.htm It would look a whole lot better if you just removed the added-on wiring. Yes, I did test-fit some HP gear into it. They are, indeed, standard 19 inch rack rails on the front. Regards to all, Dave __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Wanted: HP6290A Power Supply Manual 2
I have an HP 6290A 0-40VDC, 3A power supply. For the most part, it seems fully functional. However, something is amiss in the metering circuitry. The front panel meter mainly pins high or low. There's a four-position selector on the front to select the meter range as 5V, 50V, 4A or 0.4A. My suspicion is that it's either the switch or something in a meter amplifier circuit. Ideally, I'd like a nice copy (electronic preferred) of the service manual, but if I can get nothing more than a usable schematic, I'd be a much happier camper than today. Naturally, I'm willing to reimburse reasonable copying, postage and handling fees. Thanks in advance, Dave W8NF Santa Rosa, CA __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? As Seen on TV - Shocking Discovery Helps Everyone!
When I read this post I also signed up for the program and I am very happy to say that the savings have been overwhelming. I have not been to the supermarket once since joining without saving a minimum of 70% on my entire order. Thanks so much for sharing this huge tip with us! Alice [original message] As amazing as it may sound many people do not realize how easy it is to LEGALLY stop paying for their groceries! This is how the one hour television show began for the company whose website is at: http://www.wrldofproducts.com I thought it was very interesting and decided to check it out. I am very skeptical by nature so the first thing I did was check out the company. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and found that the company has had no complaints lodged against them, I also contacted Paypal who has verified this company. They told me that they verified the company's licenses, bank accounts and other paperwork indicating to them that the company is legitimate. Then I started asking co-workers and friends about this program and to my surprise 6 out of the 10 people that I spoke with were already using this program. They told me how pleased they were with it and how much money they had saved and are currently saving. So I decided to sign up for this program on 8/2/04. On 8/9/04 I received my complete membership package and the fun began. Using their program and the free lifetime membership that it includes I went to the supermarket ready to make a killing. The cashier rang up my grocery bill and it came out to $239.87 then I presented her with the coupons I received from this program and I saved $223.38 - my final bill was only $16.49! The cashier wasn't the only one shocked. This program has changed my life!!! If this wasn't enough, using their restaurant gift certificate program at http://networkofsavings.com I received $90.00 in free restaurant gift certificates already!

5325B
G'day Group: I've just become the keeper of an HP 5325B counter (SN 944-01273) and am intrigued by the model number on the front. It says "H71 5325B ELECTRONIC COUNTER", with "HEWLETT . PACKARD" underneath. The manual copy that I have has pictures of the front panel that looks the same, but without the "H71" in front of the "5325B". Does anyone know the significance of the "H71"? Regards, Dave

Explanation about warning label on 180TR + 8558B units 3
Hello to all, Got a newbie question about a label found on top of my analog CRT main frame (housing my 8558B Spectrum Analyzer). The label said that a grounded power source is required for operator safety (no surprise there) but then it went on about consequences and how the frame will float to half the supply value possibly *damaging* the instrument. I've seen similar labels before but nothing about damage to the instrument. In what scenario can it damage the equipment ? Is this specific to Spectrum Analyzers ? If this is critical, I am considering installing a lack-of-ground warning system in my rack (or main frame). Also, I suppose that a ground rod would be required if I ever operate on a portable generator (mountain top repeater servicing for example) ? Thanks for the wisdom! Benoit Robert VE7EBR

Multiple 50 ohm termination for Aux A port on 8553/8555 spec ans
Has anyone ever made one of these devices? Seems like it might not be too difficult - then again- are there any spares out there? Is it just a calibration error issue running with out one, or are there more subtle things to be aware of? 73 Dave, ZL3FJ

8558B attenuator repair possible ? 2
Hi group, Just wondering if anyone has experience fixing the "non-field repairable" attenuator of this Spectrum Analyzer ? My 8558B attenuator sometimes needs (when changing to a new position) to have the shaft "wiggled" to give the proper attenuation. This looks to me like a contact issue but since HP discourages servicing, I thought I'd ask here first... Thanks in advance, -Benoit

Howdy All- RE: HP1715A (and family) scope -- rear panel foot/bumper. Anyone have a spare rear panel foot (more like a leg) that bolts to the rear apron on the HP 1715A scope? These are black resilient plastic about 2 inches tall also has power cord retainer clips molded into the plastic. Could use one or two... Please advise. Thanks! Regards, Bob, (aka Vollumscope)

Thanks George, I too have two of them ! the problem I have is that even with the dip switch on the back set the same, one of them wont allow me to set the day/month, it increments ok as the clock cycles each day over, but wont allow me to reset and adjust the day/month like I can the other clock, I run one on UTC and the other local time, frustrating!
