I am struggling to run a firmware update on my N8973A NFA running firmware version A.01.03.?

?

According to the Agilent / keysight docs I have prepared six discs, however after cycling power on the NFA obviously does not recognize the "ESALOADR" Tool on disk 1 to start the firmware updater.

The disc is readable by the NFA when using the filemanager.?

?

Does anyone have a clue ??

Hello Olaf,

We already had this issue. The better is to prepare the disks using a PC XP based with an internal FDD, external will work also but it's random...

Olaf, I can send you the loader file and the other five disk files. I prepared them using a WIN 7 system. Maybe my files will work if you copy them using your floppy drive. I suppose it's possible that newer Windows versions write floppy drives differently. Send me an email so I can attach the files.

The problems are not all related to Microsoft and Windows. The NFA N897XA series has particularly unfriendly firmware. The file management system feels like an abandoned remnant from the early DOS/WIN 3 days. They could have done a lot better.

?Today I was able to create a new set of disks on an old XP based system following Antoine‘s hint.?
I will check this on Saturday as I am not at home now.
if it does not work, I will be happy to return to Your offer.

today I was successfull in updating the NFA. Obviously the Windows 11 created disks are not readable for the N8973A.

?

Beside of Antoine's hint to use a XP based computer (which worked) I was also succesfull to use the "Winimage" software by setting the format to DOS 5.0 / NT / XP and inserting the downloaded files.?

?

Maybe this can be a help for others having update needs on those instruments.?
