Hi Tom, That's a bit difficult as the attenuator is a square tube with sma plates attached at the end. These are rock solid and not removable? unless you force it.
Btw. You need to remove the YTO to get to the last two screws. It was good that I had take pictures because you need to remove also two solid coax pipes and be careful.

HI Kees¡ ? Most of the HP attenuators come apart by removing 4 small screws from one end plate, removing it carefully, then sliding the U-shaped stainless piece off. Easiest to take of the end plate which doesn¡¯t have the electrical connection. ? That should sufficiently expose the inner workings so that you can see? the plungers, etc. ? Tom, N8ZM ? ? Hi Tom, yep just checked the attenuator and it shows the same rolloff as the unit. ( checked with tiny SA) I just checked the hard sma connections and they are ok, so it's the attenuator. Now how to get it off the metal plate. I see no screws or anything. Anybody? ? Op di 4 apr 2023 om 19:06 schreef Tom via Metronet <n8zmTWH@...>: That suggests that one of the sections isn¡¯t making proper contact, the roll-off is due to an open circuit at low frequencies, and ¡®just enough¡¯ capacitive coupling at higher freq¡¯s. ? Probably an O-ring problem. ? Tom, N8ZM ? ? Hi all, Always think about the easiest fault instead of thinking the worst. I've opened the HP 8591E and attached the first mixer rf input to the marconi 2019A signal generator?through a 10db attenuator.? the low end is correct! so I have a bad connection?between?the input and the output of the switched attenuator. I'll check further?and report. Fotr sofar thanks for all the help, suggestions especially Mike!

OK, then it is a different design than the ones I have dealt with. ? Sorry. ? Tom, N8ZM ?

hi All, just a update on the hp8591E SP. It works again. I removed the input attenuator and through ebay got a Wavetek model 0955-453 and installed it in the SP. It passed the cal with flying colors and it working again until 9 khz and stable until 1040Mhz ( as high as my marconi 2019A will go)
Thanks?for all the help and input !!!! Gr. Kees Op wo 5 apr 2023 om 19:39 schreef KeesHofwegen via <radiohofwegen= [email protected]>:
